Bass Enhancement in Reason Using Scream 4 with SubTractor

Previously, we learned to create a subwoofer shaking bass in Reason’s SubTractor. Here’s another tip for a “Screaming” bass in SubTractor.

The Scream 4 Sound Distortion Unit in Propellerheads Reason can be used to add some bass enhancement: First, highlight a SubTractor and create a Scream 4, which will be patched in line with the SubTractor’s output. Turn the Damage control down so that there is not too much distortion. Select the “Tape Damage” algorithm tweak P1 (Tape Speed in this case) as far left as it will go, and P2 (tape compression) as far to the right as feels comfortable to you. If you want to go even further, engage the ‘Cut’ section and move the slider up. Even though the section is labeled ‘Cut’, this actually boosts the bass frequency. Even more resonance can be added by using the ‘Body’ section of Scream 4.0, particularly Body types D and E.
