Passive or Active?

I'm sure not a passive guy but passive basses are fine, active electronic definitely helps to improve the tone from the pickups. My option is passive pups with an active preamp on board (or external). Anyway, I don't think that's the crucial thing, first comes the bass :D.

Agree with dr groove, my fretless '69 jazz (replaced the original fingerboard with unlined ebony) sounds exactly as I want, much better than a lot of active fretlesses I owned before. I have piezos on my Yamaha TRB6P, I don't use them all the time , they sound very different than the magnetic pickups, I like that "unusual" sound, sounds good in some occasions.
