Loar LH-309 sounds like Banjo on Steriods

Recently bought the Loar LH-309 archtop acoustic with a P-90 pickup. Playing it through a Peavey EFX-112 ecoustic 100watt amp that has a 5-band EQ. My older cheap flat-top guitar with a piezo pickup & onboard 5-band EQ sounds a lot better than my new Loar. I changed the strings & improved my sound to some degree. I am trying to get rid of the tinny banjo like sound it makes... Anyone out there know if I can use the Behringer AM-400 , or the Behringer AD 121 V-Tone pedals? Or do I need to install the K & K pickup system inside my archtop? Or maybe just a pre-amp? Any or all comments welcome... Thanks!
