Trying to use Alesis Q49 as external MIDI controller in Logic

Hello all,
I bought an Alesis Q49 and wanted to use it for MIDI in Logic. I hooked it up via the USB and created a new track and then didn't know where to go from there. I watched almost literally every YouTube video talking about Logic's environment and audio Midi setup and got nowhere.
Logic recognizes the Q49 and I can even control the volume level on the track from my Q49, but no signal from the keys. I'm not sure where to go from here and any help is much appreciated, since I am completely new to MIDI.
Thank you.
P.S. I have a Lexicon Omega interface. Should I route the Q49 through it instead?
