Roland HD1 vs Yamaha DTX500 for beginer 11 yrs old?

howdy, my sons quite keen on this but not sure which way to go. similar price. any help appreciated.

The HD-1 is very limiting and limited. Better to look at the TD-4 - or the Yamaha kit you mentioned.

look for a used "entry level" TD-3 or TD-4 or the Yamaha. A lot of people upgrade and sell off these kits. You'll save lost of $$, plus you can sell it if it doesn't wrok out and get your $$ back.
the HD-1 is too limited, digital drummer is right.

Another vote against the HD-1 - it's a toy compared to the next product up, the TD-4.
Ergonomically, your child will not learn correct technique because everything is fixed in place and not very natural.
