Can I use Yamaha WX5 with other sound modules?

cyberpuma

Guys I need some feedback and advice. I have a WX5 that I have been playing for about 5 year using different softwares like Reason to get natural wind sounds, or at least close to natural. After all this time, I decided to try the VL-70 because that's what most people recommend to use it with, but the sounds are very electronic. Yes, the expression you get is great and is easy to use, but the sound itself is not what I'm looking for. Plus I didn't realized that the vl70 was quite old, more or less from 1996, so there is not USB connection, memory cards slots, softwares to create your own sounds or upload different ones, etc. So, is there another type of a more updated vl70? I went to a music store and the guy told me the yamaha motif es and motif xs should do the trick since they have and do what I'm looking for; although I don't know if they are as expressive as the vl70. He said I could get a rack for adding expressions for sounds, but I didn't understand what he meant by that. Is the a rack that can add expression to your sounds? Plus I dont know if with the motifs, even though they are newer, I can squeeze the juice out of my WX5.

None that I can think of other than finding an older Motif with a PLG150AN in it. I think it is the same sounds as the VL70 though.
You could turn to the software world. Here are a few to look at.

Putting aside softwares because I think they are great too, Would you recommend using the motif es or xs with the wx5? or there are other better racks?

You can try it, but no one is making physical modeling like that other than the new Roland Jupiter 80. I don't know how well the two would work together since the Jupiter is doing something completely different.
