Whether you’re an aspiring drummer or a professional with years of experience, electronic drum controllers and multipads are a welcome addition to any arsenal.

In general, electronic drum controllers and pads are small and easily portable percussion devices that you can program to play a variety of sounds and samples. These help you expand and develop your drumming skills, providing amazing control and creative freedom. Giving you music at the tip of your fingers, our percussion pads feel and sound just as good as classical instruments.

Sweetwater stocks many different types of drum controllers, but in general, they can either be built into your drum set or work as standalone devices. Controllers are usually small and played with fingers instead of drumsticks. One of the biggest advantages of these devices is their small size. Many controllers are small enough so that every pad is reachable with only one hand and all the music is created within the span of a few inches.

For beginning drummers, it's best to choose a controller or multipad with pads aligned proportionally and arranged in a practical order. Sweetwater stocks many pad controllers which have pads positioned into a grid. For beginners, this is the best way to get comfortable controlling sounds with your hand. For experienced drummers with better muscle control, check out our round controllers or those with smaller and bigger pads that can be programmed to play any sound you like. Aim for efficiency by placing your most used sounds on the bigger pads, while keeping rarely used sounds on the smaller ones.

Another thing to look out for when buying electronic drum multipads is the total number of pads. Getting fewer pads is the better choice for beginners, while experienced players will want more. We carry a variety of controllers and pads ranging from 1 all the way up to 64 pads. If you know the number of pads you want, it's easy to find here.

Most of our controllers and multipads are super easy to configure, and many come with a USB connector. If you plan on recording your work, select a product with MIDI capabilities so you can connect it to a computer or other MIDI-equipped device.

Whether you're just starting out or want to add to your drumming kit, Sweetwater keeps up with the latest in drum technology, and we carry brands trusted by the pros. If you have any questions choosing your electronic drum pad, just give us a call. One of our impeccably trained Sales Engineers will be happy to help you out.
