Craving that smooth, nice, sliding sound on your guitar? Try it yourself with a guitar slide from Sweetwater.

Slide guitar is a one of a kind guitar technique that adds soulful expression to your playing and can be mastered by both new and experienced guitar players. Sweetwater carries several types of slides, so you can choose the best one for your desired sound.

Are you into classy kind of sounds? Glass guitar slides are a great fit for that. They are smooth, warm, and have a distinct feel and tone. They are warm, crisp, thick, and emphasize your sounds' middle harmonics.

Maybe you're into more of a raspy sound? Some bluesy expression? You'll need metal guitar slides for that. These are bright and rough. They bring out heavier sounds and are perfect if you want to create slow long notes. The tone will be semi-distorted, with great sustain, emphasizing the upper frequencies.

With a porcelain guitar slide, you'll get a sound that's somewhere in between these two extremes. Depending on the ceramic mixture, ceramic slides can be more on the smooth side or more on the rough side. The tone that results will be a combination of highs and warmth with a medium sustain that is not as long as the tone produced by a metal slide, but still not as short as glass.

Regarding the thickness of your guitar slides, here's how the story goes: you'll have the best control with slides which have thinner walls. With a thinner slide, your fingers will be very close to the guitar strings. Thicker slides are longer lasting, but they're less easy to control when compared to the thinner ones.

Another pro tip: Guitar slides work amazingly on guitar necks with thick strings and high action. On, and one more, for good measure: you can save when you buy guitar slides in bulk.

For novice guitarists out there, keep in mind that when you're starting off, you have to determine which finger works best for using your guitar slide. Many players are most comfortable with their middle finger, ring finger, and pinky finger, but you'll have to experiment a bit and see what suits you best. You can also choose a different size for your guitar slide - when in doubt, go for a medium. It's the most popular option.

Still in doubt? Give our Sales Engineers a call. We know exactly how the material of your guitar slide will affect your sound - and how to determine the best size for you. Tell us your playing style and we'll answer any questions you have.
