Get Twice the MIDI!

The Roland US-20 is a floor pedal unit that allows a GK-2A/ GK-3 equipped guitar to control two compatible devices simultaneously. With the US-20 a guitarist could trigger both a GR-20 Guitar Synthesizer and a VG-88/VG-99 V-Guitar System with one guitar. In addition, the US-20 allows users to switch between two attached devices for maximum versatility in a performance situation. Now, players with GR-series guitar synthesizers, a GI-20 Guitar MIDI Interface and a VG-99 V-Guitar System can utilize the power of each device by simply stepping on a pedal.

Roland US-20 Features:
  • One GK-2A/ GK-3 input port
  • Two 13 pin output ports
  • Two pedals for combination switching
  • Durable metal construction
  • Compatible with GR-1/09/50/20/30/33, GI-10/20 and VG-8/88/99
  • Comes with (2) 4 foot cables.

Great Pedal!

Ultra quiet. Best A/B I've owned and works great with the GR33 and GP10

What's the Beef with the US-20?

Okay, I'll admit I'm "old school". Here's my rig with the US-20: U.S. Ultra Strat with GK-3 pickup added, playing into a Roland GR-33 Synth and the VG-88 v. 2. So, I'm dealing with old equipment, but my outputs are into 3 different amps: (1) a cheapo Rogue practice amp, (2) a Peavey Classic VT 2 x 12, and (3) a Hartke Bass Amp Combo 1155. The Peavey's got 4 standard jacks for instruments, so the Peavey is mixing both the GR-33 and the VG-88. I'm sending the Peavey pre-amp out to the Hartke, while the small Rogue is taking care of one out from the VG and the other out goes to the Peavey...gives me a stereo effect when the VG calls for it.

I've only had the US-20 for about two weeks, but I'm having no problems with it at all. For those reviews I've read...the same as you probably have before you're willing to pop-out a hunk of change for an A-B pedal...there may be quality-control problems with some of these US-20s in those negative reviews, and mine may start fritzing-out on me, too, but so far, so good. The switching on the 20 is totaling silent and the only thing that seems to be slowing me down is my own ability to work the foot pedals on the synth and the VG fast enough. The electronics are very efficient on the switching pedal, giving me synth alone, VG alone, or both on simultaneously. My favorite is both on ALL THE TIME! I can't get enough of this dual-world option that the Roland US-20 has opened up for me. It's awesome, and I've heard some rigs in my time. The GK-3 allows guitar alone, synth alone, or a mix, and of course you can balance out the volumes with your guitar volume and the GK-3 volume to get your mix. As long as I can have this US-20 do this kind of magic, I'm telling every guitarist I meet how cool this is. I'm 70, now, and I can use the world "cool" with some authority--my age group invented it in the early 50s. You synth guys get yourself one of these switch units: They're super. Now I don't think I can go back to just a guitar with regular stomp pedals..a lot would be missing.

Simply Awesome

Yes, it is a little pricey, but worth every Penny. So easy to set up and you are jamming on 2 of your favorite Guitar Synths 1 at a time or combined just by a simple stomp on the Compact Foot Pedal. Absolutely Love it! It even comes with 2 of the 13 pin cables to connect your Units to. Wish I had this years ago, but it was definitely worth the wait! Roland did it again :)

US-20

Works as describe but requires some forum searching to understand why it does some of the things that users have complained about. I was able to correct all issues by adjusting input gains and understanding how the unit works. 4.5 because the unit reqiures alot of research and developing as to how you implement it.

Simply put, modern electronic music wouldn't exist without Roland. Many of the electronic musicians here at Sweetwater cut our teeth on TR Rhythm machines and fondly remember programming our first TB-303s. We owe a good part of our careers to this amazing and innovative company. It's been fun to watch and grow right alongside Roland, as they've introduced wave after wave of revolutionary keyboards, digital pianos, and more. For example, Roland's V-Drum Kits continuously redefine the possibilities of electronic drums, beginning with SuperNATURAL technology to the latest Prismatic Sound Modeling. We're huge fans, and we'd love to tell you all about them. Whether you want a pocket-sized synth or a cutting-edge video mixer, if Roland makes it, then Sweetwater is 100% behind it.
