Killer Mic Pre. Times Four.

The Manley Force Quad Mic Preamp from Sweetwater uses a topology based on Manley's CORE mic pre section. It sports the same input level control and switch arrangement (minus one mic/line input). It also borrows the CORE's mic input transformer and 12AX7 vacuum tube gain stage. The main technical difference between the two units is the MOSFET White Follower, new to Manley. It also employs the same Entrodev switched mode PSU as the CORE.

Manley Force Quad Mic Preamp Features:

  • 4-channel mic preamp
  • Features per channel: Microphone Input (XLR), Hi-Z Instrument Direct Input (TRS), 7-LED Peak Level Meter, Main Output (XLR), Microphone Pre selectable gain switch 40dB or 50dB, 60dB available via internal jumper, 120Hz Highpass Filter switch, Polarity Invert switch, 48V Phantom power switch, Input Level Attenuator (Variable Pad), Manley Microphone Input Transformer, Class A Vacuum Tube Gain Stage, MOSFET White Follower output stage
  • Warm-up mute timer circuit
  • 2U rackmount chassis
  • Front panel power LED (flashing during start-up)
  • Front panel push button power switch

Hifi x 4

This Mic amp is built really well. The Knobs and buttons feel nice. I have another 4 channel Mic pre that includes some extra features that's made by UA called the 4710d-this is not like that. The Universal Audio 4710d has a lot of features packed into the same size unit, with a usable sound; The Manley Force is 4 high end tube Microphone pre-amps with every millimeter dedicated to high fidelity signal. It takes a lot to drive it into distortion. It has a ton of clean headroom. The sound is clean and three dimensional. It makes your sound sparkle.

Worth every penny

I did a great big preamp shootout for drums to help pick which preamp to keep, after purchasing a ton of options. When I heard the Force, I literally immediately hopped online and bought a second. The deep detail and dimension makes everything sound so deep, and when run though my favorite compressors, holy crap.

I landed on the 5411, 3124v, and the Force as my three primary favorite drum preamps. But the force also can be pushed for some good tube drive which funny enough doesn't also need an attenuator. Which means growling synth and bass DI, and a perfect gain layer on DI guitars. Running horns and vocals performs admirably as well, providing some heft in all the right places while staying "clean".

I'd buy a third or fourth in a heartbeat if my studio needed more preamps.

World-Class Tube Pre

There is little original to add to all of the praise for this preamp, but I felt compelled to pile on. The Manley Force is a beautiful sounding preamp.

It adds color to your source that is rich, smooth, and hefty (like you would hope for a tube preamp), yet doesn't have the inflated, overly round sound lesser tube preamps also impart––this unit isn't trying to make your microphone sound "fat" to prove its tubes are working, rather it's simply trying to make things sound detailed and dimensionalized.

Like all Manley products, the build quality is top-notch. All of the knobs, buttons, input/output jacks, metering, etc. are sturdy in their materials and ergonomically designed for a simple work flow.

There is little flash to this unit––it just sounds and feels great. Which is pretty much all you could ask for when you're thinking of a preamp, right?

My favorite pre-amp

Over the years I"ve had several different pre-amps. The Manley Force is the quietest I"ve heard, even with my headphones cranked. The headroom is amazing. When recording drums, the tubes add a nice compression that is more pleasing than any of my plug ins on my DAW. I made this my primary pre amp for everything I record. And for the price, you can"t beat it.

Amazing

I have tried numerous high-end name brand pre-amps and did tons of research before settling on the Manely Force. This preamp is the BEST preamp I have ever used on my drum kit and is simply AMAZING. I started with one Manely Force for bass, snare, and overheads but loved it so much I bought another to mic up toms and the bottom of my snare. The Force is not just great for drums but for everything in the studio. The Force is easy to use, has four channels, is built like a tank, and sounds incredible. Quit reading this and just buy one or two or three! You won't regret it!
