The semi-hollowbody guitar is a classic design mashup that turned out to be greater than the sum of its parts. You get a nice richness due to its resonant chamber, but you retain solidbody attributes like enhanced sustain, a tighter top end, and reduced tendency to feed back. Sweetwater carries a stunning selection of semi-hollowbody guitars, ranging from semi-hollow versions of classic solidbody models, to sleek, innovative guitars with sophisticated designs and ultra-modern electronics — as well as a lot of unique guitars that fall somewhere in between.

Today’s semi-hollows are capable of a huge variety of tones. Some are decked out with the latest pickup innovations and control systems that allow you to run your pickups in humbucking mode or tap the coils to jump into single-coil configuration. From an electronics stand point, it’s like having half a dozen guitars in one. With modern and vintage neck profiles, we also have something for every pair of hands.

If you’re looking for something a bit bigger, with a closer connection to the heyday of rock music, take a look at our double cut and single cutaway guitars with larger lower bouts. The chambers in these are nearly as large as a fully hollow version, but the solid center block construction enhances sustain and tightens the top end. These are equally good as big cowboy chord strummers, sonic big wave surfers, and blazing hot jazz solo axes. These guitars harken back to earlier eras, but their rich tone and playability will let you find your comfort zone within the wide range of genres and playing styles they accommodate.

One of the signature sounds of the semi-hollowbody guitar is the unmistakable jangle of late 60s folk rock. These big, almost garish guitars had a stunning look and a signature tone that drive music scenes to this day. They get their characteristically round yet bright sound from the combination of a chamber in the upper half and solid lower half. But don’t make the mistake of thinking they’re only for clean work. These guitars dirty up in a most awesome and infectious way.

Whether you’re looking for the ultimate in precision controls and modern neck profiles, going for a brash surf or cool rockabilly vibe, or just jangling out, you’ll find a guitar that produces your sound and fits your hands. We have scores of stunning models from the legendary names in guitars as well as the new classics.
