Here's Your Chance to Play like Scofield

From his early work with Medeski Martin & Wood to his extensive solo career, John Scofield has played a leading role in the development of modern jazz guitar. This Ibanez JSM10 lets you play with Scofield's same tone while tapping into his aesthetic style. From the gold tuning pegs down to the Quik Change III tailpiece, the JSM10 is every bit as dashing as it is playable. A pair of Super 58 humbuckers deliver characteristic PAF tone, while Scofield's preferred electronics give you the humbucker warmth and single-coil clarity you need. Top the whole thing off with an Artstar treated, bound ebony fretboard on a super-comfortable mahogany and maple neck, and you've got one solid jazz box.

Configured for precision, speed, and incredible stability

One of the things that had us dragging each other to the Sweetwater showroom to marvel over the original Ibanez John Scofield model was its phenomenal stability, and we're absolutely delighted that the JSM10 follows suit perfectly. Between its set 3-piece mahogany and maple neck and reliable Quik Change III tailpiece, the JSM10 provides you with absolutely rock-solid performance. What's more, the smooth Artstar fret-edge treatment and bound ebony fretboard make this one of the most comfortable guitars you're likely to get your hands on.

Classic humbuckers meet sophisticated tone options

The Super 58 humbuckers in the JSM10 are the same type of pickups found in John Scofield's own guitar, wired up the same way to give you a ton of tonal options. With just the 3-position toggle alone, these classic PAF-style humbuckers provide you with a beautiful range of warmth and clear projection. But there's a second 3-way toggle onboard the JSM10, which lets you switch the neck pickup from series to parallel, with a stop in the middle for single-coil tone. The tonal possibilities are absolutely astonishing!

Jaw-dropping appointments make this jazz box a real looker

Some guitars are just born classy, and the semi-hollowbody JSM10 is certainly among this class of instruments. For starters, take a look at the flamed maple top and side - that figuring is no joke. But the beauty of the JSM10 extends down to the smallest details, like the gold tuning pegs and other hardware, or the binding on the top, back, and fretboard, which extends to the headstock and the F holes. And you can't help but admire the Mother-of-Pearl and abalone block inlays, which seem to leap off the fretboard and capture every stray beam of light.

Ibanez John Scofield Signature JSM10 Semi-hollowbody Electric Guitar Features:

  • An amazing semi-hollowbody electric guitar based on John Scofield's own custom Ibanez model
  • Flamed maple top back and sides with a maple and mahogany set neck provides strong and sweet fundamental frequencies
  • Super 58 humbuckers with 3-way switching and 3-way neck pickup configuration deliver massive tonal options
  • Gold hardware, including an ART-1 bridge and a Quik Change III tailpiece look great and offer excellent stability
  • Medium frets with Artstar fret edge treatment and bound ebony fretboard feel great and play amazingly
  • Additional appointments include Mother-of-Pearl and abalone block inlays and full binding
  • Hardshell case included

Excellent guitar

I took a chance on buying a demo, and I'll be damned if I can find any issues with it, it looks pristine to me. What a great sounding/playing guitar, there's a ton of tonal possibilities. The neck is substantial but very comfortable to play. It's a heavier guitar than I anticipated, but I personally like that. This is definitely one sweet guitar. I'm attaching a video I did playing through a Magnatone Super 15 - my favorite amp - also got that through Sweetwater, fabulous amp! Buy this one with confidence.

A huge stroke of luck

I'm going to begin this review with the part that usually ends one. And that is to give mega kudos to my sales engineer, Sean DeLeon. Without him I would not be holding my perfect match guitar in my hands right now.
To make a long story short, I had been waiting for another guitar that was on order for a few months to come in when Sean called me up to let me know that, unfortunately it was going to be a bit longer, pushing it's arrival into possibly May or later. I had really had my heart set on that one and we talked about if there were any alternatives I had looked at when choosing the original guitar. I mentioned that I would only really be willing to make an upward move to the JSM10 and I had looked a couple of days before and they too were waiting on order.
Sean did a quick double check and discovered that 2 had just come available and if I wanted he could provide one of those. Still wanting the first guitar I agreed to take a look and opened the website to find one of the most beautiful guitars I have ever seen.
I'm not even a big Flame top guy, but this one was exceptional and soon Sean had the order completed, 3 days later it was in my hands (with the added 1 day in the box… very important).
So needless to say this was a real stroke of luck, but it doesn't end there. I have 2 other Ibanez guitars, so I knew the JSM10 would be a great quality guitar and well built, especially with the input of John Scofield on the design. What I did not know until I played it was that it was the guitar that I had been waiting for since I began playing.
It feels like a perfect fit for me, equal to the Telecaster I've owned for years .
The neck profile is so comfortable without giving up a feeling of being substantial and the Artstar fret-edge treatment is so good that you soon forget all about it and just play. No other guitar I own gives me a "fretless feel" up and down the neck.
The Super 58 p/u's are my favorite and on this particular guitar they seem to be enhanced by the deep resonance that this neck and body provides.
Well I could go on ad nauseam about the guitar and what makes it so special, but you can read the specs and watch the video reviews, the guitar is phenomenal.
I would recommend this guitar to anyone seeking a superior player that has the looks and backs them up by being a player that will go the distance for you in multiple genres and styles.
I also want to thank the Sweetwater 55 pt inspectors for sending me another perfectly set up instrument!

A Go Go

I'm on the fence. Beautiful guitar. Flawless everything except the top of the headstock isn't fully polished and the pup toggle switch is loose. For 1k I find this acceptable. This guitar is 98% immaculate. I got a scratch and dent bc it's cheap and I'm a sucker for a good deal. It plays like butter. The pups are much brighter than I thought they would be but I'm adjusting to them. For the price it's a ridiculously good deal and I'm happy to add it to my collection. My salesperson Cody checked in on me and just kept proving why he's top notch. If you have a Jazz itch ...scratch it with this.

A most surprising guitar in every way

Admittedly I do not have a great wealth of experience with 335 type guitars (semi hollows). I did own an epi 339 for a short while. First, the level of build quality punches above the price. The fit and finish are top notch as the selection of wood appears quite high in grade. The fretboard is beautiful and the fret ends are rounded and smooth unlike any guitar I've seen in this price range. I took a fret rocker and checked the entire neck… absolutely no bad or troublesome spots. The nut was slotted very well and action at the first fret is perfect. The action was a bit high but this resolved easily when I put a set of Ernie ball ultra slinky 48-10 and adjust the trust rod about 2/3 turn. The bridge design is really great… the notch to prevent the strings from touching the tunomatic bridge as it travels to the stop tail is a great idea. Not to mention the quick access to feed the string on the tail piece. The pickups are balanced and really sound great for clean, grit and crunch! I really thought I'd replace them and was thinking Seth lovers… but that's not happening any time soon. The neck humbucker switch to split or run series/parallel is really more useful than I thought. I believe this brings a lot of tonal versatility. The tone controls behave a bit different from what I'm use to.. it seams like they are fine tuning until the very end… whatever type of pots and resistors… it works for me. The case is really nice and is of really good quality as well. The only component that I feel doesn't hold up to the rest of the guitar are the tuners. They work just fine and turn smoothly when there is tension. However when the strings are off or very little to no tension… they are a little sloppy and again just don't match the quality of the other hardware. Another aspect I feel needs mentioning is the fatness of the neck. The neck is a big fat C or maybe U shape… much like an acoustic neck profile. I checked the dimensions of the neck on the Ibanez website with the as 93, as113 and they are spec's the same. I don't have big hands but have come to adjust quickly. I normally play strats with Ernie ball 46-9 or sometimes 10's… I find bending and vibrato very easy with these heavier gauge strings… it's really surprising to me because on paper… this shouldn't be the case. I don't play a ton of jazz but wanted to cover some jazz and bluesy rock… I honestly love playing everything on this guitar (rock). If you are in the market for a 335 of high quality that won't set you too far back, and are good with a fat neck profile… I think you'll be pleasantly satisfied with this guitar and the attention to detail and craftsmanship. Again, thanks to My sales engineer Charlie Davis for helping my out and sifting thru options and choosing between this and the AS113.

Nice guitar for the price. A real workhorse.

A fine model. Happy with the PUps. Had a professional setup done, and plays wonderfully. I do use the extra switching, and I am really excited about the tonal options.
