PRS Quality in a Baritone

The Paul Reed Smith SE 277 Baritone is a powerful sonic tool for guitarists who love down-tuned riffing and for players who need a vast array of new low-end colors for recording and performing. The two SE 85/15 S humbucking pickups on the 277 Baritone can be split to offer you both humbucking and single-coil tones. And the birds in flight inlays, the flame maple top, and the identifiable body shape exude unmistakable PRS quality. This SE 277 Baritone is sure to add new low-strung colors to your playing. Freshly updated, the SE 277 Baritone now features PRS' sleek violin carved top for optimized comfort and an incredible look!

27.7-inch-scale baritone

Baritone electric guitars have been in use with popular music for decades. Both '60s surf rock sounds and spaghetti western soundtracks were full of these down-tuned instruments. Not only did they offer their own muscular twang, but baritones were often used underneath the bass part — known as tic-tac bass — for more definition. Today, the baritone tradition is going strong with the aggressive lows of heavy metal, the resurgence of classic country, and even indie bands looking to expand their sound. Extended-scale instruments like the SE 277 Baritone offer sonic adventurers a way to find new chord voicings.

PRS-designed 85/15 S humbucking pickups

The two humbucking pickups in this SE 277 Baritone are Paul Reed Smith-designed 85/15 S's. An update on PRS's original humbuckers, the 85/15 S is designed to sound terrific whether used in humbucking or single-coil mode. They offer you plenty of output for driving your amp hard, while sounding clear and detailed when you want. These SE humbuckers closely resemble the tones of the US-made versions found in the solidbody electric guitars crafted at PRS's Maryland factory.

Unmistakable PRS appointments

The SE 277 Baritone is loaded with appointments that immediately identify the guitar as a Paul Reed Smith. The violin-carved flame maple veneer top maintains a classy look with the shapely ergonomics of a much pricier instrument. A PRS-designed plate-style hardtail bridge delivers solid tuning stability in a low-profile design that feels comfortable to your picking hand. And the birds in flight fretboard inlay speaks volumes about the quality of craftsmanship and tone you can expect from this PRS. Guitarists at Sweetwater are definitely adding this baritone to their collections.

Paul Reed Smith SE 277 Baritone Electric Guitar Features:

  • Baritone solidbody electric guitar
  • 27.7-inch baritone scale length is ideal for B-B tuning
  • 2 powerful and clear 85/15 S humbucking pickups
  • Coil split available for single-coil tones

Phenomenal guitar

What can I say?..except WOW !
The look and. Feel of thos guitar is fantastic.
The sound is out of this world.
The playability..fantastic.
It's all you'll need for a baritone guitar.
I suggest capoing thos up to the 5r
5th fret.youll be in tune with the rest if your band with a higher tonality on the strings.
It's fantastic. I couldn't be happier with this guitar.
It's everything you could want or need in a baritone guitar.

Drop Tuned Beast!!!!

This Paul Reed Smith is an absolute masterpiece. The longer neck makes down tuning and playing so much more enjoyable than a standard scale guitar. Everything from the design and feel of this guitar is perfect, and I highly encourage everyone else to pick this up as well.

Get one!

Awesome tones & piano like sustain. The neck is a little longer and frets a bit wider than a guitar by design, but WORTH it. Powerful! Love the lows, miss & highs!

Tone Monster!

I purchase the SE277 to fill a sonic space in my recording arsenal. I'd been using a Squire Bass VI, but wanted something a little more guitar like in both scale and tone. Happy to say that this instrument did not disappoint. Fit and finish is perfect. The set neck is very comfortable, and no doubt contributes to the fantastic tone and sustain. I really like the classy maple body binding as well. All hardware is solid, and the electronics allow plenty of versatility. The split coil wasn't something I was overly concerned with until I heard it in action. Really glad they thought to include that option. I also like the pickups. I've changed out a lot of pickups over the years for one reason or another, but in this case I don't see the need. All in all, this has to be one of the best "bang for the buck" baritones out there. PRS quality and sensibilities are on the job with this one.

Prs se 277

This is long overdue. Bought this baby a month ago and it has been perfect. First let me say that sales engineer Mike Godlove needs a raise. He has gone above and beyond to get me so much awesome gear. But this guitar has seriously surpassed my expectations. It's a work of art, and it plays and sounds awesome. The stock tuners are great. The stock pickups are great. This thing also feels so sturdy. Normally when you see a guitar that looks this good, you want to handle with extreme care. But I play hard and angry and this thing takes a beating. I highly recommend it. Thanks Mike! And thanks to all of Sweetwater.
Music background: 25+ years of hard rock and heavy metal

You don't even have to play guitar to know that PRS instruments are in a league of their own. With their exquisitely figured tops and premium appointments, each PRS is a playable work of art. But it goes way deeper than the surface. Every time Paul visits Sweetwater, we get a deeper look at his amazing instruments. We've even hosted several PRS Custom Shop events, complete with Paul's personal Wood Library! Whether they're his most affordable SE electric guitars, top-quality acoustics, or amps, it's always amazing to see what PRS comes up with. What's more, we keep a ton of PRS guitars in our amazing Guitar Showroom, so the staff at Sweetwater can get hands on with all of their latest models. We'd love to tell you all about them.
