The Cure for Anemic Bass Tones

With the Electro-Harmonix Battalion on your pedalboard, anemic bass tones will be a thing of the past. Sculpt your sound with a 4-band EQ tailored specifically to bass guitar. Forge growling overdriven bass lines with a MOSFET distortion circuit. Place the EQ before or after distortion for an array of interesting tones, or EQ your dry tone and blend to taste. Add thump and sustain to your playing with a built-in compressor, while a noise gate keeps your signal clean. Enjoy easy integration with your rig, by virtue of a range of flexible I/O. Whether you use it as a DI or as a front end for your amp, the Battalion will satisfy your tone cravings.

Sculpt your sound with a four-band EQ

The Battalion's 4-band EQ encompasses the frequencies that are most vital for bass guitarists: Bass affects frequencies below 200Hz, with Lo Mid providing boost/cut at 280Hz. Mid gives you boost/cut at 750Hz, and Treble tackles frequencies above 2kHz.

Add growling overdrive to your bass lines

You can achieve an array of distorted bass sounds with the Battalion, thanks to its MOSFET distortion circuit. This circuit's Level knob sets the output level of your distorted signal, while a Blend knob allows you to control the mix between dry and distorted signals. Crank up the distortion's intensity with the Drive knob and adjust its high end to taste with the Tone knob.

Inject your bass with extra thump and sustain

If you need more thump and sustain, the Battalion's compressor is just the ticket. It also evens out your playing, creating a balanced sound that really shines when employing slapping and other dynamic techniques. The compressor features its own push button, amount control, and LED.

Three signal flow modes yield unique tonal variations

At Sweetwater, we appreciate the level of flexibility that the Battalion offers. Three signal flow modes unlock a plethora of tonal possibilities. In the Pre EQ mode, the distortion section comes after the compressor and before the EQ. The Post EQ mode places the EQ after the compressor and before the distortion. The Dry EQ mode puts the distortion section after the compressor, but only your dry signal is affected by the EQ.

  • Preamp and DI pedal for bass guitar

Best Bass Preamp and DI

Though I normally steer clear of EHX gear, this pedal is an anomaly. The Battalion has the best tone for live shows.

I will never need another Bass Amp. Time to save my back.

Best buy ever for my bass--for tone, for amplification, for recording, for everything! It allows for good pad sounds when I cut the db and the crunch is not half bad. It provides me the opportunity to EQ to my liking. I highly recommend it to bassists of all styles.

Amazing Tone!

This is my second one of these. My first one was fried due to a sound guy thinking he knew something about electricity nobody else did... I then bought the dark glass bass distortion pedal which sounded great but for the same price this one has so much more flexibility and you can use it as a standalone fly in rig if needed. If all you're looking for is a little bit of bite all the way to full on muff sounds, this will do it and you get to keep your low end.

Give this a shot.

TBH, when I first purchased this I was a bit underwhelmed. Not sure what I was expecting, but wasn't it. How wrong I was! Diving into it you find a deep array of tones I have yet to come across in any other unit. Definitely a working bassist pedal.

Gate.... You hear others saying it is barely usable, but it does exactly as advertised. Yes it's simple... Which is why I love it.

Compression.... Same as above. Works like a charm without the endless tweaking.

4 BAND EQ.... 'nuff said

3 Way Distortion Routing.... Put it right where you want it.

True Bypass, independent dirt channel, pad, not to mention built like a tank alongside flexible in/outs.

Volume on DI with ground lift.

My only want would be an input for external music to practice with, but that's not enough to lower it's reading in my opinion. Oh yes. Price. Can't touch it for value and ease of justifying it's purchase. Overall best value of anything I've ever tried. Buy it!
Music background: Session, live work for more years than I like to count.

Great Underrated Preamp!

I wanted my best bang for the buck, and the Battalion delivered. The EQ section is versatile and great for dialing in a core tone or having an alternate voice at the push of a button. The mosfet distortion is equally versatile thanks to the pre/post/dry options and sounds really nice when everything's dialed in well. The compressor is also solid, be even better if it was footswitchable.

Plenty of I/O so it's good as your main stage DI box or a pedalboard mount.

Bonus: it sounds good on guitar too. The manual describes the hZ range of each EQ knob, and you can then tailor the EQ to a guitar. I like pushing the hi-mids (which for guitar is more of your high frequencies) while keeping the treble around noon.

Surprising Full Package Pedal!!

So I bought this pedal recently being new to the world of preamp pedals and I gotta say I'm blown away! I use it as my all-in-one pedal and to be quite honest I don't think I really need much else; I could show up to a gig with nothing but this pedal and be totally set! The preamp gives your bass a nice big sound that is tweakable to your liking with the eq options, the compressor evens out your playing like any compressor would and is super simple to use, the gate works well for also being a one knob setup (not the greatest, but totally usable), and having a distortion (with a handy blend knob) built in to the equation gives you everything you need all in one enclosure. Adding on features like a DI out with it's own volume, -10db pad, 3 seperate ways to route your distortion (pre, post, and dry), and a ground lift which is always a plus I havent been able to get a bad sound out of the thing and it's overdelivered at every turn. If you're on the fence about it let this be the review that sways you, this thing rocks! And that price, don't even get me started. Buy this thing!
