The Barcus Berry 4000 Planar Wave System incorporates a piezo Crystal Sensor boundary mic and state-of-the-art 4000XL piezo preamp to capture grand piano and harp with full-spectrum frequency response and perfect amplitude balance across the entire instrument while achieving excellent feedback rejection and isolation from ambient sounds. The system can be quickly and easily installed on either side of the instrument’s soundboard without tools or holes to drill, and can be removed without leaving any surface damage or marring. The Barcus Berry 4000 Planar Wave System captures a level of high fidelity that would otherwise require multiple microphones and a mixer to achieve. The Barcus Berry Planar Wave system signifies a dramatic breakthrough in transducer technology. The sensor is effectively non-responsive to vibrations borne by the major surface planes of the instrument soundboard; yet it remains highly sensitive to the transverse energy waves traveling along the soundboard. These unique properties allow the system to capture stunning, full-spectrum frequency response and perfectly balanced amplitude across the entire range of a piano or harp, with superior rejection of ambient sounds and feedback.
The 4000 Planar Wave System includes Barcus Berry’s 4000XL piezo preamp, an active direct box that can be powered by a 9-volt battery or 48-volt phantom power. It is fitted with a 1/4-inch monitor output jack with variable level, as well as a balanced XLR main output with ground lift and a 12dB pad.
