A Console Graphic for Your 500 Series Rack

Purple Audio's take on the console graphic equalizer, the Tav 500 Series EQ module gives you ten bands to play with. Each band employs a high-quality inductor and carefully selected capacitors to set the center frequency. When you dime boost or cut, the Q is narrow enough so that the bands are useful individually, however at lower settings the Q broadens out for more subtle shaping. With its all-discrete signal path and specialized input and output transformers, the Tav delivers gobs of headroom, even at full boost. Take it from Sweetwater, the Purple Audio Tav is one sweet graphic EQ.

Purple Audio Tav 500 Series Ten-band Inductor Graphic EQ Features

  • Each band offers 12dB of boost/cut
  • Relay True Bypass; tri-color LED level meter
  • Discrete signal path; transformer balanced in and out
  • No electrolytic caps in signal path
  • Auto-resetting fuse shuts down individual module without affecting entire rack or console

Best Sounding Analog EQ I Own!

I'm not sure if it's the transformers, or the op-amp bandwidth, a combination of the two, or something altogether different, but the Tav has this wonderful way of making everything sound polished. There's just this lovely 3D-sounding dash of tasteful harmonic distortion that makes me want to drop it onto my Mix bus, even if the sliders are left zeroed. (This is especially true if I am working with a lot of virtual instruments, or synthesized sounds!) Boosts and cuts are both smooth sounding, and while I can't say it will magically take the harshness out of any source, I have never had an issue with my Tavs introducing any harshness.
Oh, and while the linear potentiometers have a detent in the center position for easy zeroing, these are still graphic EQs... It is very possible to match settings between multiple units. However, it is a bit more challenging than with any stepped EQ. Get creative, use your ears, or use a frequency analyzer plugin, if you need a closer match than what you can do by eye.
