Fantastic sticks!

I've been around the block with sticks in my 44 years of playing and generally play with a much heavier stick, but my friends had a pair of these in the stick depot on their home kit and I laughed about them when I first picked them up. After ten minutes of playing them I was ordering several pairs. No other stick I have found allows me to play with authority AND low volume like these sticks do. The weighting is exquisite and I was crushed when they seemed to be discontinued. Thanks, Vic Firth, for always innovating.

Excellent Stick for Dynamics and Articulation

I don't normally write reviews, but felt I wanted to give a massive thumbs up to these sticks. I play low volume a lot of the time, so I tend to prefer playing with versions of brushes (Promark Broomsticks, Vater Little Monsters) due to greater range of dynamics and cymbal articulation. I actually don't like rods because they are too similar to regular sticks, and I don't feel they give me what I am looking for in terms of feel and dynamics. I find SD5 Echos to be a better alternative to rods and give me the range when I must play with sticks. If you are a heavy hitter, these are not going to be for you. You will snap them instantly. But if you are a lighter player, tend to play lower volume and lean more toward jazz, world music and really want to control dynamics while also getting beautiful articulation, these are fantastic. They will take some getting used to weight-wise if you only every play with a regular weighted.

Stick of Choice for Dynamic Range

Having gigged for over 40 years I settled on this drum stick over the past 3 or so. No other stick looks or feels like the Vic Firth Echo.

When played "frontwards" they are nearly weightless. When played "backwards" they are like having mini-Louisville Sluggers in hand. As such they are capable of a wider dynamic range than any other drum stick I have found to date.

These sticks are for drummers who are sensitive to dynamics, as applied jazz, blues, funk, soul, and world music. While they hold up well under physical duress, I would not recommend them for drummers who have high stick action and a powerful stroke, unless they are intent on expanding their range of expression.

Vic Firth has always been dedicated to a quality product. The Echo is no exception.
Music background: Jazz and Blues drummer since 1975.

Awesome product...Vic Firth does it again!

These are arguably the best sticks I've ever used in terms of balance, control and comfort. Ideal for controlled indoor settings where volume needs to be controlled. Love 'em!
