Sweetwater Studios Announces Guitar Recording Workshop with Nick Bowcott and Don Carr

FORT WAYNE, Indiana. [Wednesday, May 27, 2026] — Sweetwater Studios announces two recording workshops with Sweetwater YouTube contributors Nick Bowcott and Don Carr. Each session will teach participants the art of creating iconic guitar tracks that will dramatically upgrade their recordings. The sessions will take place Friday, July 17, and Saturday, July 18, at Sweetwater Studios on the Sweetwater campus in Fort Wayne, Indiana.

Each workshop will focus on a different genre, demonstrating approaches to maximize a recording session. Nick Bowcott’s Friday session will feature tips for heavy metal recording, while Carr’s Saturday session will focus on Americana, blues, and R&B styles. Attending these workshops will highlight pre-recording decisions for each recording style and the impact those choices make on the final recording.

Single-session pricing is only $399 per person. Musicians can take advantage of combo pricing for both sessions at only $649 per person.

The class outline will cover in depth:

  • Firsthand knowledge from a seasoned live and recording guitarist
  • Picking the right guitar and amp combo for the song/part
  • Building sounds with effects pedals
  • Miking techniques for heavy guitar sounds
  • Picking the right mic preamp/EQ when recording

British-born Nick Bowcott was the founder, leader, and riff writer for the heavy metal band Grim Reaper. He’s also written extensively for Guitar World magazine in America (where he was an associate editor for more than 20 years) and Guitarist magazine in the UK for over 35 years. Bowcott has been with Sweetwater since 2017, where he is a frequent writer on Sweetwater.com and contributor to the Sweetwater YouTube channel.

Don Carr spent three decades working in the Nashville music scene, where he accumulated a long list of album credits across a wide range of genres. Don was no stranger to the road, either, with thousands of live appearances and broadcasts worldwide as the lead guitarist for the Oak Ridge Boys. Carr has been with Sweetwater for a dozen years, working at Sweetwater Studios and serving as a frequent contributor to the Sweetwater YouTube channel.

Joining Bowcott and Carr will be Sweetwater Studios’ Jason Peets. Peets will guide participants through each intensive one-day workshop, providing a deep dive into recording techniques. Peets will break down every step involved in guitar recording. Attending this workshop will give participants a solid understanding of how the pros do it.
