Mike Tobias began making custom guitars and basses in his music store in Orlando, Florida, in 1977. Tobias instruments featured innovations in every facet of bass design: combinations of exotic tone woods, ergonomic improvements, and the feel that every bass was custom-designed for the individual bassist. In 1990, with demand for Tobias basses growing fast, Tobias joined the Gibson family of musical instruments. Gibson continues to raise industry standards for design, quality, and performance with the current generation of Tobias basses.
