RODE’s Origins
Henry and Astrid Freedman opened Freedman Electronics in 1967 in Sydney, Australia. Soon afterward, Freedman Electronics became one of the leaders in Australia’s flourishing audio industry. Throughout the decades, home recording equipment continued to advance, offering better equipment for less money every year. Henry’s son, Peter Freedman, capitalized on the market in the early ’90s, introducing the iconic NT1 and the RODE brand. The rest, as they say, is history. Under Peter’s leadership, RODE began designing, building, and manufacturing microphones wholly in Australia. The NT1 would become one of the world’s top-selling mics, and the company continues to innovate to this day.
Studio Audio
The massive success of the NT1 large-diaphragm condenser microphone led to an expansive range of studio microphones and equipment. RODE’s selection of microphones and other equipment includes both small- and large-diaphragm condensers, dynamics, ribbons, tube mics, and so much more. The company even produces microphones tuned for live performance and capturing on-camera interviews. RODE’s continued commitment to excellence has cemented its reputation among professionals, hobbyists, and home recordists around the world.
Filmmaking
Users around the world celebrate RODE shotgun microphones for their exceptional detail, uncompromising directionality, and durable construction. This combination of features makes RODE’s range of shotgun microphones a must-have for filmmaking, broadcasting, and sports coverage. What’s more, the company’s VideoMic on-camera shotgun mic has broken new ground in the category of intuitive, integrated microphone solutions. The VideoMic range is ideal for filmmakers of all levels, from content creators on the go to professional videography crews.
Wireless Audio
With the introduction of Wireless GO, the first ultra-compact wireless microphone system, RODE made a name for itself as a major player in the wireless audio industry. This game-changing system gave creators a small and convenient platform to make compelling content. Currently, RODE offers a selection of wireless technology for content creation, interviews, podcasting, weddings and events, filmmaking, media, journalism, and everything in between. If you’re in need of simple, clear, and intuitive wireless audio in a compact package, RODE has a product to make it happen.
Podcasting
Never one to rest on its laurels, RODE changed the podcasting landscape with the RODECaster Pro podcast production console. This compact console gives creators a full suite of studio tools in a dedicated, intuitive console. RODE’s current lineup of podcasting equipment includes everything from broadcast-quality USB mics for solo creators to complete systems for up to four podcast hosts.
Livestreaming and Content Creation
RODE has been on the bleeding edge of content-creation innovation since the introduction of the NT-USB microphone. The NT-USB was one of the first microphones to combine studio-quality sound with the plug-and-play simplicity of USB microphones. Today, RODE continues in this tradition, catering to content creators, livestreamers, and gamers of all stripes. RODE also offers cohesive audio and video solutions, including capture cards and audio interfaces with must-have features for creators.
