Hartke gained fame as the first manufacturer of bass amplifiers to utilize aluminum speaker cones. These innovative cones were favored by jazz bassist Jaco Pastorius for their high-end punch. This also made Hartke popular with metal bands of the day, as now bass lines could be heard over the scooped-mids wailing of metal guitars. While bass amps aren't the only member of the Hartke family, they are certainly what Hartke is famous for.
