IDEAL Mic For Stringed Instruments!
You'll be astounded at the wide range of applications for the M 160! Long regarded by audio professionals as one of the top choices for capturing the sound of a wide variety of acoustic stringed instruments - everything from violins and violas to acoustic guitars and zithers - the M 160 also delivers impressive results with typically hard-to-mic acoustic instruments in general. It can treat a blaring sax or a cracking hi-hat with the same skill and ease! Small and black chromium-plated to prevent glare, the M 160 is also ideal for television and film studios, where discretion is important.
The M 160 is a dynamic microphone that, unlike other ribbon mics, has two ribbons! These ribbons, each of which is only two-thousandths of a millimeter thick, are arranged one above the other just half a millimeter apart. Beyerdynamic's masterful technical design and production performance has produced a system that is sonically clear and well defined.
Beyerdynamic M160 Ribbon Microphone Features:
- Double ribbon design
- Solid sound reflection of external noise.
- Excellent stringed instrument microphone.
- Black chromium plated: Prevents glare from broadcast lighting.
- Includes: Case and mic clip.

A fantastic, do-it-all mic by Pulling Mussels from Brooklyn, NY, March 25, 2008 Music Background: Musician
“I have to say that this mic takes the cake.
I used it as a single drum overhead. The sound is so natural, and beats out just about any other mic for getting realistic sounding drums. You can EQ the heck out of ribbon mics, so you can really manipulate the signal you get to get a great sound.
I've also used it to mic acoustic guitar (about 8" from 14th fret) and got...” Read More

"All I have to say is this was Jimi Hendrix's favorite microphone for recording his guitar, and Eddie Kramer still goes to this mic for electric guitar! It was also the mic he used to get the huge "When The Levee Breaks" drum sound on Led Zepplin IV."

"We used this mic in front of a drum kit at a studio I used to work at in London and it was THE SOUND. Out of the 13 other mics set up in the room for the kit, this one soloed in the mix impressed the band more than anything else. Impress the band. Buy the mic."

"This is my secret weapon on stringed instruments. It gives me the tone I’m looking for without the need for adding additional processing. The bottom end is full and present without becoming muddy. The mids are warm and smooth. The high end is clear and detailed without being overly bright or harsh. Acoustic or electric guitars especially benefit from the sonic characteristics of this mic. Don’t pass it by."
