The Alesis iO|2 has great mic preamps with 48-volt phantom power and comprehensive metering. The flexible inputs can handle everything from mics to guitars/basses to keyboards and have inserts for outboard processing. The iO|2 even has full MIDI and S/PDIF I/O so you won't need to buy or carry any additional gear.

“I got the IO2 two days ago, loaded the drivers, plugged in the device into my PC... device "UKNOWN" urgh... I spent 40 minutes on the phone with the Alesis support team and the guy basically gave up on me. I called Sweetwater Tech Support this morning and Mike had the problem solved in under three minutes.
