From Our Research Team:
Dance Creation! The ELECTRIBE-MX represents a new generation of Electribes - powerful dance music products that cover everything from laying down stunning tracks to creating exhilarating live performances. The EMX-1 comes housed in a sleek, rugged metal chassis. The new backlit LCD provides a wealth of information during programming or performance.
The intuitive step-time/realtime interface has been enhanced with a new Ribbon and Slider control. Effects, Motion Sequencing, and Pattern length have all been expanded. A brand-new filter lets you chose Low Pass, High Pass, Band Pass or Band Pass Plus.
Up to 256 patterns can be created and stored to the internal memory. You can combine patterns, add mute data and knob movements to create up to 64 songs. To get you started, a wide assortment of patterns covering house, hip-hop, R&B, electronica, drum'n'bass, techno, trance and more come preloaded - 196 in the ELECTRIBE-MX. Using the last step function, you can easily adjust to any odd meter. Favorite patterns can be assigned to Pattern Sets for instant access. Data can be quickly saved and loaded via SmartMedia.
Audio inputs allow you to process external signals through the on-board filter and effects, and an extra pair of assignable outputs has been added as well. The front panel knobs and switches control all the most important sound parameters, allowing you to modify the sound in realtime as you perform, and giving you a hands-on feel like that of an analog synthesizer.
Powered by one of the most advanced synthesizer engines in the world, the ELECTRIBE-MX provides 9 drum parts, 5 synth parts, plus accent parts that let you add dynamic accents to the drum and synth parts. The all-new Multi Modeling Technology offers sixteen different oscillator algorithms, providing powerful analog synthesis models as well as sophisticated additive, PCM, chord, unison, combination, wave shaping, formant models and more. The built-in PCM library includes 207 drum PCM sounds and 76 synth PCM sounds ready for immediate use, ranging from powerful kicks and snares through amazingly unique organic sounds.
The ELECTRIBE-MX has the added punch of Valve Force circuitry - an analog tube circuit powered by two vacuum tubes that allows you to add tube warmth and presence to your sound at the output stage. Three stereo effect processors give you the tools to radically change your sound.

Best in Korg Lineup
by Henche Mann from San Diego, CAI've been using the Electribes since their inception back in 1999-ish. The MX is hands down the absolute best incarnation of the series. It is a monster sound module and drum machine. For example: I g... read more [+]ate arangements/ chord progessions from my Triton via it's audio in jack to create some really freakish and sublime music. I also run my guitar through the audio in jack to use it as a "guitar synth/ fx box"- no joke. This thing is a total BEAST. The brain of my rig.

Music Background: Pro Musician, Recording, Performing, Electronic Styles
Construction: Rock solid. I take this thing out gigging constantly. It's a tank. Chassis is METAL! I really wish KORG would have used this same quality level for their newest line of gear (Micro X, Radias, X 50 etc...)
Where will KORG take the Electribe next? For starters, would it kill KORG to give us at least ONE channel of Polyphony? (My one and only gripe!) close [-]
Possibly the most versatile synth out there...

Mad creation at a friendly price
by Random Rab from San FranciscoI love this modern vision of the old school sound. The best part of this machine is the ability to create new and interesting melodies and beats on the fly. A versatile tool for any musical application
by Eric from Hazleton, PAI have owned the EMX-1 for about a year now, and it has been one of the most versatile and influential pieces of equipment in my collection. There is a common assumption that this Electribe is only f... read more [+]or dance and techno music, however I have personally used it for many different applications. The drum part sequencer is very intuitive and produces very realistic sounds, and all parameters are easily adjusted. When used as a MIDI controller, the power of this sequencer is truly evident. If you like “knob twisting”, this Electribe allows one to really fine tune the desired sound, as well as alter the characteristics of the sound throughout the song. You can also connect the Electribe via MIDI to control the knobs on virtual instruments, such as the synths provided in Reason. One other main feature is the twin vacuum tubes. When used in conjunction with the audio-in jack, this unit can be used as a tube pre-amp. I have used a send from the vocals into this machine, adjusted the tube gain, and it has produced an extremely impressive warmth to the track. Overall, I recommend this Electribe to anyone who wants a versatile tool in their arsenal that can enhance the sound quality and uniqueness in any application. close [-]
