Fantastic

Is it worth a thousand dollars a set? Probably not. However I got very lucky and won these in a contest via Sweetwater. I've been loving these in my Les Paul for about a year now. Clarity is amazing, even with distortion, cleans are a breeze. This Epiphone has become my main guitar, and these pickups are all I want to hear. Even over my Jackson with boutique pickups, I'll love these for as long as I have them. 5 stars. I also love that MJ's initials are in the box mine came with.

Fantastic pickups.

I installed these on my Ibanez JS10th. Very different from the original pickups that came with the guitar. Prior to the zephyr, I had Bare Knuckle pickups on the guitar but didn't quite like it.

The zephyrs have a cleaner and very bell-like tonally. They might be expensive but Seymour Duncan did create something amazing here. Thanks to Ryan for helping me with this. I would definitely buy these again if I need them on another guitar.

Definitely not snake oil.

High Quality Sound Starts Here

What is better or worse is dependent on the individual. I've have these for 3 years now and there is a tonal difference between these and the stock Seymour Duncan's in my Fender Big Apple strats. I go back and forth between different strats so I can tell a difference. But the diff isn't huge and if you play hard core metal in heavily saturated high gain amps maybe the difference will get more buried and unnoticeable. I play through Soldanos -- high gain but these pickups do shine through the brightness and clarity of these amps. I love em. Most of my soloing is done on these pickups. The more grinding heavier stuff the stock Seymour Duncan's do just fine. At first I didn't notice a big difference but as the years go by the difference is there and my playing adjusts accordingly between guitars making use of the tonal differences these pickups provide...

The best pickup I've ever tried

This is probably the best pickups I've ever tried. I put this on my Gibson Les Paul 50s Standard and it easily became my gold standard for tone. The frequency and clarity of each strings can be heard even with lots of distortion. I will definitely get more of these in the future.

Putting them through the ringer

I've tried the. on 3 guitars. 12 amps. And about 50 effects pedals. They are great. Very clear and responsive. High gain doesn't get muddy in the gain compression. Nice growl in a marshall style crunch. Almost spanky in a twin and jazz chorus. I like these pickups a lot. Are they better than other high end pickups. Duncan's lollars fralins. In the end they are just different. Would I pay that much for another set no. So who are they for? Not many people. Very niche. I'd say just 2 categories. Very technical players that are hunting for a very specific tone and response. And people that like to buy their guitars jewelry. In both cases it's a luxury buy that most people don't need and shouldn't spend the money on. But if you can they are awesome!
