Plenty of great features for songwriting
You'll enjoy the YPG-635's onboard 6-track sequencer - great for capturing moments of inspiration, and building onto them right away. This YPG has 500 quality XGlite/GM voices for expressive playing, complete with a high-quality Live! Grand Piano stereo sample. You can use layer and split modes to further enhance your sound - playing bass notes with your left hand, and controlling a string section with your right. And, once you've gotten the parts sequenced perfectly, you can easily save the song to your computer via USB - or just pop in a portable USB thumb drive to take your project with you in your pocket!

Educational tools right onboard
The YPG-635 features the Yamaha Education Suite that gives you interactive lessons to develop your piano skills and even monitors your progress. It has 30 internal songs, with 70 more on CD, so you can play along with more challenging pieces, while practicing your playing "in time." Its Flash ROM memory also lets you download more songs - and you can even connect a USB thumb drive to the YPG-635 to add your favorite MIDI songs so you can then learn them using the keyboard's educational tools. There's even an advanced bitmap screen that displays the score and lyrics of the songs so it's like having a whole music book already built-in!

Easy USB connection for computer recording
You can use the YPG-635 as a portable MIDI controller to create complex songs using your favorite software sequencing program. It actually has two USB ports on it - one for hooking into your computer, and one for connecting a storage device like a thumb drive. This is my second Yamaha piano, my first being a DGX-500 which was a nice performer. I decided I needed weighted keys like an acoustic piano and I'm not sorry I purchased this piano. Amazing!

This is just an amazing thing. I had a Yamaha M1A upright for years. My kids learned on it. It just died. I mean it couldn't be refurbished. Wore out. I bought a 7'1" Young Chang grand and had it re... read more [+]novated entirely, all new action, Steinway hammers, etc. Interesting idea: blend of oriental piano with Steinway parts. The result was amazing but I am not a great pianist and even with the keys reweighted I had a hard time with it. Unfortunate events called for the sale of the Young Chang to a church for $13,000 and they love it. I just bought this Yamaha digital piano and the purity of the tones easilyi matches the Young Chang acoustic. And of course there are all of the other fun things you can do with the piano because it isn't a piano it is a machine! Very nice and not expensive. I guess digitals can be fussy so I got a two year warranty for $89. Good deal, security. close [-]
