From Our Research Team:This DI Box Has Everything But a High Price! The ART XDirect is a high-quality interface that lets you connect instrument-, line-, or speaker-level signals to a mixer or other balanced input. The high-impedance single-ended 1/4" and XLR inputs are buffered and converted - by very low-noise active electronics - into an isolated balanced low-impedance signal source. The XDirect has an extremely flat and wide frequency response, and it can handle high signal levels while still maintaining an isolated balanced low-impedance output. This gives the XDirect a very clean and neutral sound with a wide variety of signal sources and over long signal runs in high-noise environments.Unlike traditional direct boxes, the XDirect features a switchable lowpass filter that cuts out all very high-frequency interference. This Bessel filter on the output is placed out of the audio range and reduces radio frequency interference before it gets into the main system. The filter is also very effective in reducing any digital computer noise artifacts when using the XDirect as an interface between a computer DAW and monitors. The XDirect's input attenuator switches allow for a wide range of signal levels and the input link jack lets you tap off of your signal chain. A ground-lift switch lets you totally separate the input and output signal grounds, when appropriate, to isolate two systems - reducing hum and ground-loop noise in the process. Another nontraditional feature is a Phase Inversion switch that allows you to switch signal polarity right at the source. The compact black anodized all-aluminum case and its flexible power design allow the XDirect to provide years of trouble-free service in live sound, permanent installations, DJ booths, and virtually any PA application. The XDirect can be powered by an internal 9-volt battery or via phantom power at the XLR output. It senses phantom power and will automatically draw from that source. The full feature set, rugged construction, and high-end specifications make the XDirect the obvious choice whenever you have to interface high-impedance sources with a low-noise balanced system. by Richard C. from Oklahoma
This is a great unit for the price. As you will see while looking at different reviews of ART products they are famous for having a really tight battery compartment, no change here. Regardless if yo... read more [+]u are using this unit off battery power or off phantom power you still need the battery connected. That being said, the Xdirect has a nice sound. It would not be my choice for a permanent installation, but to have in your gig bag you can't beat it for the price. There are still guitars out there with out a built-in preamp and are still using passive pick-ups or maybe you need to up the input to your favorite head phone distribution system. When you buy a direct box you are looking for something that is going to translate your signal with quality and sonic purity and this unit does a nice job of that. Yes you will find better sounding units, but you will also find a lot higher prices with those unit. In this price point you would be hard pressed to find another unit that provides you this quality, so pick yourself up one today. close [-]
