I have been recording audio since 1979 - yes OLD SCHOOL, baby! My regular work consists mainly of audio post on weekly TV shows. I am sent an omf2 document and dv stream and I add voice, sfx, music an... read more [+]d final mix the programs. I do not typically go out on location to record audio, I stopped that 20 years ago! A client recently asked me to do the location audio on a series that I was going to do post on anyway and as the production took place outdoors, I agreed - but also had to gear up for the production as I no longer own any location kit.July 12, 2011 Music Background: Post- production/ sound design I have been watching the ever evolving range of Line 6 gear with interest - 24-bit signal, no companding and built strong. I purchased one V70HS unit to test it in a "remote" environment. I was absolutely blown away by the audio quality during testing and purchased three units in total. I had wrap around cases made for the receivers and could stack them easily with velcro strips. I used a 1500 amp hour battery to power two Line 6 receivers AND my Tascam DR-680 recorder and could work two 10 hour days with all units running before having to recharge! I used Audio-Technica BP893 mics with the system and cannot believe the sonic results - superb! While the V70HS receivers were not actually designed for location recording, I had 10 days of trouble free, excellent performance from the units and never had to use the standby unit. I can't wait to hear the XD-V70HS performance indoors as it was designed to be used ...... close [-] Great product - very pleased!

I bought and used this product to free me up from being tied to my microphone's location during live musical performances. Given that I'm either playing guitar or keyboard while I sing, the headset s... read more [+]eemed like a logical choice. I tried it out for the first time at a show last weekend. My initial thoughts:May 17, 2011 Music Background: Gigging Musician Ease of set up: Could not be easier. There are really only a couple of settings to mess with. I did not need to change the channel, though the option is there if you need it. I did change the power setting from it's default (high power) to low, which worked fine for the range of movement I needed (<25 feet from the reciever). At that setting it lasted for the whole 4 hour show, and the battery indicator showed plenty of life to spare. There are no mic modeling settings on the headset system. Interoperability: There were three other wireless sytems on stage with me at the same time. An AKG analog mic for the lead singer, a wirless bass guitar (brand unknown), and a Line 6 Relay G30 for my guitar. I had no issues with interferance from any of the other wireless systems on stage or any other transmitters (including the cell phone I forgot to remove from my pocket). Ease of use/comfort: The headset is very thin and light. I initially had some issues with getting it to sit on the exact right spot on my head. But I think that was more getting used to it than anything. It got better as the night went on, and I mostly forgot it was there. The mute button is easy to get to, which is important to me. And when muted, there's a nice bright red LED on the reciever sitting all by itself, so you can clearly visibly see that you're muted. Good. Sound quality: To my ear, the sound quality was excellent. I sing backups and the occasional lead. The signal seemed to be accurately reproduced and well balanced across the frequency range. I didn't notice any degradation of quality as compared to singing through my normal wired mic - an SM-58 beta. The only unwanted noises that occurred were when I got my head too close to (like almost on top of, to make sure it's working) an amp speaker without muting the XD-V70 first - but I'd definitely chalk that up to user error. Just a matter of remembering there's a mic mounted to my head and remembering to mute it if I need to get close to a loud sound source. Overall: The unit seems to be ruggedly constructed. Definitely a nice looking piece of gear to have sitting on top of my stack. This is my first wireless mic, so I don't have a large basis for comparison. But it performed very well for me on first use, and so far I'm really happy with it. close [-] Line 6 XD-V70HS is a great wireless system that could be better with a cardioid mic and better instructions.

The Line 6 XD-V70HS wireless headset mic system was easy to set up, truly plug and play. The only issue we had was with the omni-directional mic. My sales engineer warned me that it may be an issue,... read more [+] as we use EAW LA wedges on stage. They definitely limited gain on the mic and was always on the edge of feedback. I switched to a Shure PG30TQG cardioid condenser headset and realized much more gain before feedback. February 21, 2012 Music Background: I am a musician, vocalist, sound tech at Church of the Cross Assemblies of God in Hayward, CA. The directions for the system were quite brief and did not explain the mic emulation features of the Line 6 system. It could be, the mic modeling is only available on the hand held mic, not the headset. If so, that is a disappointing omission. close [-]
