From Our Research Team:

Triton Technology in a User-friendly Synth

Why have Korg's synths and workstations dominated the market? Well, it's simple, really. They combine the finest samples and waveforms with brilliant programming, then add in a vast array of effects and mix well with cutting edge features like dual polyphonic arpeggiators and USB connectivity. See? Quite simple. That takes us to the new X50 Synthesizer, which is a whole lot more than a synth, of course. Weighing about the same as an electric guitar, you can easily take the X50 with you anywhere. On stage, into the studio, to a jam session. You name it. But the best part is that right out of the box, you can start making music with the X50 thanks to its wide range of sounds and easy operation, not to mention the USB port, which allows you to interface the X50 with your personal computer for even more creative options.

Korg X50 Music Synthesizer Features at a Glance:
  • Korg-quality sounds in a compact size
  • 61-note keyboard with 62-note polyphony
  • 512 programs and 384 combinations
  • Powerful studio-quality effects section
  • Dual polyphonic arpeggiators and more

Korg-quality sounds in a compact size
The Korg X50 uses the same HI synthesis engine that has powered the best selling Triton Series. What's more, many of the sounds in the X50's 64MB of sample and waveform ROM have come directly from the Triton, so you know this is going to be a great-sounding instrument. Yet for all its sonic firepower, the X50 is compact and lightweight, so you can take it with you and make music when the inspiration hits you.

61-note keyboard with 62-note polyphony
The Korg X50 comes with a fast, velocity sensitive, synth action 61-note keyboard. An octave shift function allows for easy access to a full range of bass and treble notes. And while many of the very best (and most expensive) keyboards in the past limped along with 8, 16 or even 24-note polyphony, the X50 can play 62 notes at the same time. Meaning you can lean on the keyboard with both arms and still have one more note available. This is particularly handy when using the X50 in multi-timbral mode. Note stealing is now a non-issue!

512 programs and 384 combinations
You can have the best raw samples and waveforms, but it takes a very talented programmer to make the most out of the raw data. Fortunately, Korg's team of sound designers and programmers are some of the very best in the industry. Which is why the X50 comes with a full 512 programs and 384 combinations that include some powerful splits and layers.

Powerful studio-quality effects section
Korg has always had some stunning effects. As far back as their analog PolySix, exceptional effects have been a Korg trademark. The effects selection on the X50 are as good as anything we've heard in a long time. What's really exciting is that you can use up to four effects at a time. From rich reverbs to lush chorus to spacey flanging and beyond, you won't find yourself wishing for an external processor. Yes, they're that good!

Dual polyphonic arpeggiators and more
Among our favorite features on the X50 are the dual polyphonic arpeggiators. These are light years ahead of the old up, down and up/down arpeggiators of the past. If you don't find some inspiration here, you probably shouldn check your pulse! Other great features include editing software (standalone and plug-in), USB connectivity, a four-channel audio output and much, much more.

Korg X50 Music Synthesizer Features:
  • Ultra lightweight, compact design
  • 61-note velocity sensitive, synth action keyboard
  • 62-voice polyphony/62 oscillators
  • 64MB of sample and waveform ROM
  • Same HI synthesis engine as the Triton
  • 512 programs and 384 combinations
  • Studio quality effects (up to four at a time)
  • Combination mode allows up to eight programs to be freely combined
  • Dual polyphonic arpeggiators
  • USB port for interfacing with personal computers
  • Full-featured editing software (standalone or plug-in)
  • Multi Sets provide instant recall of 16-part multi-timbral groupings
  • External control setups for use with DAW software and softsynths

The Korg X50 is an unbeatable synth for live performance or studio recordings!

I love my X50

by B. Heller from West Grove, Pa.

Music Background: Old School Techno, Trance & Acid Breaks
Bought this two years ago, loved the sounds it makes and that's what counts most in my opinion. The piano's are highly realistic and if your into electronic music it can make a very close resemblance... read more [+] of a Roland TB303 with square wave and distortion effect. I know diehards out there will scoff at that remark but im pretty picky and it can come really close to that sound. (I been listening to the TB303 sound since 1992.) Also the m1 organ patch is taken from the earlier Korg M1 and its excellent for making old school house tracks. My only complaint for new folks is it can be hard to learn to program your own sounds using the computer interface as i found out. If this thing had 30-40 knobs and no screen it would be sick,. If you dont mind the 512 factory patches that isnt an issue.
If i had to do it over again i would probly get the Dave Smith Tetra for a $100 more which is TRUE analog not that this one makes that claim but thats just personal preference. When i bought it i thought i would rarely use it and too my surprise i use it just about every other day.
I am highly satisfied with this machine but wish company's like Korg would give up DSP and make some true analog machines again.
Its worth the money for sure! For newbies id recomend Rolands Gaia SH01 which is far easier to learn. close [-]

Extremely powerful synthesizer. I use this regularly for MIDI compositions. The programs on this thing are amazing, so good that I hooked up my Roland V-Drums and Yamaha P70 Digital Piano up to it b... read more [+]ecause I like the X50's drum kits and piano programs MUCH better. The keys are fairly tough despite being unweighted (other synths feel very toy-like in my opinion) and the on screen navigation is very easy to scroll through. Most of all, this thing is EXTREMELY portable. My MIDI class professor loves the size of this synth, it's extremely light, yet solid enough to be very easy to transport from home to studio. This synth is highly underrated in my opinion, and is by far of the Korg's best products. If your thinking about buying, please do, you will no regret it. close [-]

Amazing sounds...Perfect keyboard for the money.

I was very impressed with the sounds. Other than that it's great..The On-board navigation is quick and intuitive. The software that comes with it makes it real easy to edit combi's and patches.
