This is an addendum to my initial review. In which I stated the I felt that some tools and techniques were overly repeated. Since my review was written I have recieved an addendum to the book in which... read more [+] is stated that the mastering section was a publishing error as distributed. This was the main section of the book that I felt lacked any real use, because all the songs used the exact same plugs and settings. After reviewing the addendum from waves I felt I should add one to my review. The new material was refreshing and very useful and I feel that it fullfiled the books direction completly. This book is a useful tool to anyone who uses the waves products, newbie or veteran. Two thumbs up to waves for this book. close [-]
November 1, 2004 Music Background: really liked this book

I am a newbie. This book lets me "look over the shoulder" of an expert using the Waves plug-ins. It is a step by step tutorial. You get several CD's containing the raw audio files fo... read more [+]r several songs of several genres (like rock, country, hip-hop, etc.) Each track is treated separately. Then the whole mix is mastered. All with Waves plug-ins and the exact settings for each plug in are given and explained. These settings sound good and there's lots to choose from. I've saved many of these settings to use on my own tracks.
October 1, 2004 Music Background: Not just for newbies. My mixer-recorder-producer friend with many years of mixing experience is also VERY impressed with this book. BTW: Yes, some of the same plugs (like the Q10 EQ) are used repeatedly in many examples but usually each time they are used, there is a different "twist" to it. And, just as in real life, these plugs really do get used repeatedly. Finally, this book has allowed me to submit some pretty good tracks and mixes AND when I get compliments, I DON'T and won't tell them I used this book. Thanks, Waves and the author, Anthony Egizi. close [-] Waves, production mixing and mastering

A well written and thought out book. Some excellent insight and technique.
August 1, 2004 Music Background: One complaint would be the authors consistent use and settings of certain plug-ins throughout. A more rounded ... read more [+]survey of all the waves tools would have made this a better learning tool. I reccomend this to anyone interested and willing to be open to some very extreme plug-ins applications, if not open to exploring to the ends of the musical universe save you money! This book did at least one thing for me that I was not expecting. I realize now that some of my instincts are also shared by and implemented by other engineers out there. Most I have met seem to stay within certain avenues of comfort, as we all do tend to do at times. Very refreshing!!! close [-]
