I recommend keeping it stock. Even the tubes are of good quility. Overall excellent build quality I have had mine for two years. I've had a Vox AC4TV 1x10 for one year with nothing but issues. I even use it to gig, its so light and I always have a pa to run my vocals through so why not just mic this little guy too? If it is the sound from the studio, why not have that sound live? This amp will destroy your expectations and rock!!! Sounds amazing with the built in speaker, and sounds amazing when plugged into an extension cab. I just don't feel they offer much flexibility compared with outboard pedals. But they're there if you want them & do offer more flexibility than nothing. The 16 voicings are nice to have. Though not all will be useful, there are a few that I really do like. I think this amp does a great job of giving me the Fender tube amp shimmer that I grew up with for a very small investment I've been playing guitar for about 43 years. But I haven't gigged since the early 80s & have sold most of my old gear including all the amps I used to gig with. Now that I'm not playing out I don't need a big amp any more & my back also dictates that. So I had tried a few solid state amps & found them okay for what I needed, but nothing to write home about. The Vibro Champ XD, though a little weak at the bottom, gives me that sparkle that's been missing with the solid state amps I've tried. I don't think it would be a suitable amp to use for gigs because it's not very loud. But it would be a decent amp ro record with. And it's perfect for the small living room jams I've been using it for. It seems to be well built and it's easy to use. But the numbers on the voice control take a little getting used to before you can remember what setting is for which voice. And the print on the effects control is a little hard to read for this old man's eyeballs. Still it's a good value & worth checking out if you need a small amp for an apartment or similar setting, or if you want real tube sparkle without spending 2 -3 times the price. close [-]
