Incredibly accurate models of 25 different stringed instruments
The Variax 700 combines Line 6's exclusive modeling technology, with a custom-crafted solid-body guitar, to accurately reproduce the sounds of a variety of classic six and twelve string electric and acoustic guitars – plus other fretted favorites, such as a resonator, banjo, and electric sitar. All of the sounds are accessible with just one knob and the 5-way pickup selector. The Variax 700 can change instantly from a classic single-coil solid-body electric to a richly detailed acoustic 12-string at the flick of a switch.

Custom-crafted instrument feels great to play
But great tone is not complete without a great-feeling, high quality instrument. The Variax 700 is the custom-crafted model in the line, with a carved-top ash over mahogany body, a one-piece maple neck with rosewood fingerboard, bone nut, and pearl inlays, and Gotoh Tuners - all carefully crafted by experienced luthiers to create an invitingly playable instrument – no matter what tone you choose.

Unique hexaphonic pickup and Line 6 exclusive electronics
Although at first glance the Variax 700 appears to be a conventional electric guitar, closer inspection reveals its lack of traditional magnetic pickups. The string vibrations are detected by a hexaphonic bridge pickup and are converted directly into digital signals. These signals are processed through software algorithms that capture the interaction of each instrument's pickups, their placement, the tone controls, and details of the instrument's physical structure. Unlike MIDI instruments or guitar synths, the Variax 700 dynamically alters the signal of its own natural string vibrations to match the modeled instrument's unique tonal characteristics. The signal is then converted back to analog, so the Variax 700 can be plugged directly into any electric guitar amplifier.

On stage or in the studio, the Variax 700 delivers playability, inspiration, and tone on demand!

Music Background:
After having the frets removed and replaced with taylor frets (to match my 914CE) the guitar played in tune. Prior, the G string in the lower 5 frets played like it was on a scalloped neck. Changing... read more [+] the frets fixed the issue. As for the sounds, the electrics due well in recording situations. However, the acoustic models tend to get a bit thin and harsh. Playing broadway touring gigs - this guitar has reduced the amount of instruments I haul around. Fun to play and experiment with but no substitute for the original stuff. Playing thru a modelling amp great improves the tonal differences between the models. close [-]

Our Customers Say...

Ninety-five percent of everything in this studio came from Sweetwater. My Sales Engineer is a lifesaver. I started working with him around 2005, talking to him about what my vision was for the studio. He was right there all the way.
