Very good box!!
by Fred Railsback from Macomb, IL, August 2008
Music Background: Playing for 48 years now, (should be better at it)
I have had this box for a couple weeks now. WHen I play out we use the other guy's Digitech vocal 2 box. So at this point I have experience with both of them.
The Helicon has up to 10 useable programmable and useable presets. This is a great advantage over the Digi. The Helicon also has great effects that can add greatly to your sound. The Digi effects seem weak.
The Digitech however seems to be more positive about what harmony notes it is going to give you. The Helicon sometimes 'hunts' for the note which can be distracting.
The Helicon is less prone to feeding back and had better control of the guitar/voice/harmony mix. Digi gives limited but adequate control of these things. The Helicon will let you completely remove the melody so all you hear is harmony. I don't know why you would want to do that, but it will do it if you want.
The manual for the helicon is a little vague in places so you will need to do some experimental button pushing. It has a factory reset feature in case you get too far out there.
Both boxes give you great harmonies but again the Helicon has a wider range of choices, including 'octave'.
In summary, the Helicon wins out for me over the Digitech because of its superior flexibility and control. The preset feature is a big step forward over the Digi. The hunting that the Helicon occasionally does is a small price to pay for all the rest of the bells and whistles. I expect the hunting would go away completely if I could sing more on pitch. Eithe box will do a good job for you, but if you want better effects, presets and greater control over the total sound output, the Helicon is the one for you.
cool box

Music Background: addicted GAS ridden hobbyist
I've had mine for just about 3 weeks and an using it in a project studio to add some texture to my stuff. I'm a 20 yr veteran of music as my hobby/favorite thing to do I don't get paid for ;)
The Harmony-G is very easy to set up and sounds the most natural of all the harmonizers in its price range to my ears. I really like being able to practice singing and structure melodies with the pedal while playing/writing instead of adding them later after tracking the original. The split output is great for obviously recording dry & harmonies on separate tracks.
I also like how it forces you to get better at staying in tune as a bunch of you singing out of key is way worse than just you alone!!
The guitar feature works great. It is amazing to listen to yourself with just the straight regular harmonies and then with it adapting to your chords.. VERY cool.
I wish it had better/separate mix controls for the 2 voices and the controls over the parameters while not too hard to get to know do require a bit of time with the manual.. but then again RTFM eh?
It also needs a LOT more slots for presets and probably another footswitch to make it as perfect as it could be for what it is. a rocker pedal to bring harmonies in & out would really be killer.
Essential Tool

Music Background: Gigging Hobbyist
I have had mine now for over a month. It is as essential as a Hot Plate on my amp. The harmonies are excellent. The Tone and Double buttons, as well as effects, are what make this an essential part of my live rig. I have used it for both electric and acoustic gigs now, and every time I turn it on, people start looking for another singer. Highly recommended!
