ReviewsGreat Tool!!!
by Ernie Gonzalez from Atlanta, Ga.
This thing is AWESOME! I broke it out, at our weekly rehearsal, and my Bass player, who warned me about buying products that claim to "Give you perfect Vocal Harmonies" said he had heard what some of ... read more [+]these devices sounded like. He told me although it was about 4 yrs ago, his experience with one of these was not good. I did a lot of researching, trying to read as much on this device as I could find. I had originally started looking at the Digitech Vocalist Live 2, however after further investigating through customer reviews, I found that there were several complaints about the Digi vocalist being noisy over the PA speakers, and it had no way of presetting certain configurations. I actually plan to use this up on stage, and not having to bend over and adjust my harmonies every song separately was a big plus I felt the Harmony G had over the digitech. So, I decided to go with the Harmony G. Boy, I'm glad I did, this thing Really Works! Sounds great, no noise over my PA. I could not be Happier with my purchase, Best $300.00 bucks I have ever spent! Getting back to my rehearsal, everyone knew that I was going to introduce the Harmony G that night, and let me state that I have no one else doing vocals. So, we started. Every time I kicked in the Harmonies, my Bass player would look back at my Drummer, I figured he was just trying to get an earful to make his judgment on the thing. After rehearsal, he said "I have to confess something, to you guys". "Every time you kicked in that thing, I knew what was going on, but that dam thing sounded so real I though the Drummer was actually singing with you, so every time I heard it kick in I had to look back to check who was harmonizing with you" WOW!!!" "I must have looked back about 20 times through the night and I knew dam well what was going on, but I couldn't help it" "Take care of that magic black box" he said. So, needless to say I had thumbs up across the board with guys in the band, I have only had it 3 days now and have not really had the time to really get in depth with it, and this is my first pedal ever, not too much experience with things like this, considering I only play an Acoustic, and there is really no need for foot pedals like this in Country Music. SO YES BUY THIS THING, YOU WON'T REGRET IT! One thing to keep in mind, use it sparingly, it will have more effect on the crowd that way. At least that's what I think, can't say I know how the crowd will react because I have not had long enough to have used it in front of a Live Audience. But I can assure you from what I have heard it will amaze your audience... Guaranteed... close [-]
February 7, 2009 Music Background: Country Music Vocalist/ Rhythm Guitarist Very good box!!
by Fred Railsback from Macomb, IL
I have had this box for a couple weeks now. WHen I play out we use the other guy's Digitech vocal 2 box. So at this point I have experience with both of them.August 27, 2008 Music Background: Playing for 48 years now, (should be better at it) The Helicon has up to 10... read more [+] useable programmable and useable presets. This is a great advantage over the Digi. The Helicon also has great effects that can add greatly to your sound. The Digi effects seem weak. The Digitech however seems to be more positive about what harmony notes it is going to give you. The Helicon sometimes 'hunts' for the note which can be distracting. The Helicon is less prone to feeding back and had better control of the guitar/voice/harmony mix. Digi gives limited but adequate control of these things. The Helicon will let you completely remove the melody so all you hear is harmony. I don't know why you would want to do that, but it will do it if you want. The manual for the helicon is a little vague in places so you will need to do some experimental button pushing. It has a factory reset feature in case you get too far out there. Both boxes give you great harmonies but again the Helicon has a wider range of choices, including 'octave'. In summary, the Helicon wins out for me over the Digitech because of its superior flexibility and control. The preset feature is a big step forward over the Digi. The hunting that the Helicon occasionally does is a small price to pay for all the rest of the bells and whistles. I expect the hunting would go away completely if I could sing more on pitch. Eithe box will do a good job for you, but if you want better effects, presets and greater control over the total sound output, the Helicon is the one for you. close [-] Essential Tool

July 30, 2008 Music Background: Gigging Hobbyist cool box
by Stephen R frederick from Los angeles USA
I've had mine for just about 3 weeks and an using it in a project studio to add some texture to my stuff. I'm a 20 yr veteran of music as my hobby/favorite thing to do I don't get paid for ;)August 5, 2008 Music Background: addicted GAS ridden hobbyist ... read more [+] The Harmony-G is very easy to set up and sounds the most natural of all the harmonizers in its price range to my ears. I really like being able to practice singing and structure melodies with the pedal while playing/writing instead of adding them later after tracking the original. The split output is great for obviously recording dry & harmonies on separate tracks. I also like how it forces you to get better at staying in tune as a bunch of you singing out of key is way worse than just you alone!! The guitar feature works great. It is amazing to listen to yourself with just the straight regular harmonies and then with it adapting to your chords.. VERY cool. I wish it had better/separate mix controls for the 2 voices and the controls over the parameters while not too hard to get to know do require a bit of time with the manual.. but then again RTFM eh? It also needs a LOT more slots for presets and probably another footswitch to make it as perfect as it could be for what it is. a rocker pedal to bring harmonies in & out would really be killer. close [-]
