This is a really good equipment for anyone including beginners as it is easy to maneuver (esp. with a VGA monitor and mouse) and produces professional quality sounding music.
June 23, 2006 Music Background: Recording Engineer Great tool & flexability steep learning curve but worth the effort
by Phil Candella from Louisville KY
Ok I have had this thing for about 2 months. I am learning to love it. Knowing what it can do I love it. Getting there will take some effort. The effort I have put forth already however has been w... read more [+]orth every moment. What I mean is this thing does a lot but you have to read, reread & highlight the 450+ page manual & watch the turbo start DVD several times. October 27, 2006 Music Background: playing guitar about 30 years got into recording about 4 years ago. Now I'm getting serious about it. After that start laying down tracks & making CDs have been a breeze. This is my next step from a Zoom 8track. I really love my Roland 18 tracks gives me plenty of room for my ideas the effects are great Love the digita in & the aux outs so I can use some of the hardware I already have. The ability to expand this with plugins has me drooling. I currently don't use the VGA but after reading what I can do with one that is my next purchase. I would have like to see a few more kits in the drum section & more patterns the zoom kicked its butt here. I would have liked the ability to audition different preset effect & mastering patches with our having to stop play another thing I miss about the Zoom. But the ability to use so many effects make me miss it less. I love the 8 tracks can be recorded at a time. makes tracking a live band easy. All in all this machine is good & solid. I went with this over pro tools because it really offers the best of both worlds at a lower cost. I don't need a computer dedicated for recording. I can always convery my stuff to wave files play with it in protools later or send my stuff to a big studio to mix. I really feel like this is the last recording workstation I will need for many years or ever. The rebate really makes this cool. Roland says give them 6 to 8 weeks to get the board & plugin. I got mine in less than 2 weeks. Got to love that. close [-] Its Worth It

May 10, 2006 Music Background: Great unit, but a few things to know
by Anonymous
I'll get to the point. This unit is GREAT, do your self a favor and get a good set of play back mon. and headphones. when you hear it you'll know it was worth it. THE BAD STUFF,which is what... read more [+] we all really want to know. Like everything Roland makes it great quality, and very hard to operate out of the box. The manual needs layed out MUCH better and don't think about using it without a mouse and monitor screen. And if you want to use the mouse/keyboard feature, which I did. Good luck finding the old type cable. So you know, you don't gain much by adding the keyboard, thats your call. If your looking for something simple to operate this isn't the unit. If you want to make a studio quality recording then this is the one. The magic is when you hear it plan and simple. Almost forgot, with all the minor problems and the calls I had to make to tech support Sweetwater provided the best service I've ever had from this type of vendor close [-]
