Its intuitive touch-screen interface makes juggling four video sources and assigning visual effects easy enough for a complete beginner. What's more, the overall layout of the VR-3 is remarkably simple. Every major function has its own dedicated knob or button and appears in a logical place on the surface. Speaking of basic conveniences, if you're looking for an A/V mixer for a portable rig, it just doesn't get more convenient than the VR-3. It fits in just about any small case, weighs only 5 lbs., and can easily run on an external 9V battery such as the Sanyo Pedal Juice.

The VR-3 takes the often overly complex task of mixing video and turns it into a stress-free and simple operation. For one thing, it lets you mix audio from four independent composite video sources or three composite video sources and one computer video feed via a standard 25-pin VGA input. You can send video out via composite or USB as well, making it easy to stream right to the web. Roland also equipped the VR-3 with a powerful set of essential video mixing tools, such as keying, split screen, picture-in-picture, and three transition styles - everything you need to create impressive video compostions on the fly!

The other half of the VR-3 puts a flexible set of audio mixing tools at your fingertips. In all, the VR-3 features an 8-channel mixer, complete with four microphone preamps. Both pairs of mic pres sport independently switchable phantom power, so you can use anything from shotgun microphones to lavaliers. A pair of built-in condenser microphone onboard the VR-3 are perfect for capturing crowd noise if you're producing media for a live event. Roland also loaded the VR-3 with a full set of useful creative tools, including gate, EQ, reverb, and other must-have onboard audio processing.
