Discreet Acoustic Guitar/Ukulele Mic with CORE Amp Technology

DPA's CORE amplifier design brings improved specs — lower distortion and increased dynamic range — to the already celebrated line of DPA d:vote 4099 miniature microphones. This results in even greater clarity, openness, and consistency onstage, for studio-quality sound in virtually any live environment.

The DPA d:vote CORE 4099G acoustic guitar mic promises clean, faithful sound and high gain-before-feedback courtesy of its tight supercardioid polar pattern. The unobtrusive CORE 4099G clamps safely and securely to the body of your guitar, mandolin, ukulele, or dobro using a special clip, while its articulating gooseneck positions the mic right in the sweet spot — all without blocking sight lines or cluttering your stage. DPA is well regarded for the quality of its studio mics. Now you can take DPA performance to go with the DPA d:vote CORE 4099G acoustic guitar mic from Sweetwater.

Studio-grade sound, even onstage

The DPA d:vote CORE 4099G brings the sonic attributes of DPA's legendary studio microphones to a convenient, low-profile miking solution. The CORE 4099G's capsule and mounting system are specially designed for live-miking acoustic guitar, ensuring you get the best possible sound when performing out.

CORE amplifier technology

DPA's CORE amplifier design reduces total harmonic distortion (THD) across the audible frequency spectrum and extends dynamic range by as much as 14dB (varies between Loud SPL and Extreme SPL capsule types). So whether you're playing subtle pianos or exuberant fortissimos, CORE helps your instrument come across as clean, clear, and robust, without compromise.

Natural tone. High output.

DPA's d:vote CORE 4099 mic is tonally tailored to complement a wide range of stage instruments, with a tight supercardioid polar pattern for high gain-before-feedback. With the purchase of optional mounts, the CORE 4099G can be used where all other CORE 4099 for Loud SPL mics are used.

Tough enough for touring

Despite its size, the DPA d:vote CORE 4099G is quite rugged. Its durable gooseneck provides stable and repeatable positioning, night after night, with a mounting system that won't mar your instrument's finish. What's more, the microphone can be unclipped and repositioned or moved to another source with only one hand.

Wired or wireless operation

The DPA d:vote CORE 4099G can be used as a standard phantom-powered wired mic via its included XLR connector. With optional adapters, it's compatible with virtually any wireless system.

DPA d:vote CORE 4099G for Loud SPL Acoustic Guitar Microphone Features:

  • Meticulously designed to capture acoustic guitar, mandolin, ukulele, or dobro live
  • Offers studio-grade sound with superb gain-before-feedback
  • CORE amplifier design reduces THD and increases dynamic range

DPA rocks!!!

I've been using 4099's live for years and just recently recorded a drum kit in my studio. The drums sounds I captured sounded just like the drums in the room. That's what I love about these mics. They sound like the instrument not the mic. The toms sounded great and required little eq when mixing. I highly recommend these!

Set it and forget it!

These mics are unbelievable! We use them on our backline for Pitbull's band. We have around 20 of them on drums and percussion. Snare bottom, all the toms, djembe, congas, bongo's, timbales, toys, and of course cowbell. They are incredibly natural sounding and require little to no eq. I have 14 channels of percussion and I high pass them with no eq except for a little attack on the timbales. They are also very durable. We take them everywhere, put a lot of miles on them and have had no issues with them. We use them also for recording our live shows as well as recording side projects for the band. We've used them for recording guitar and trumpet also. Overall a very diverse microphone that can be used on multiple instruments. I will never use another brand of mic on my drums ever. Pair one up with a 2011c on Snare top and you will love it!

The best acoustic guitar pickup ever

I don't write a lot of reviews, only if a product really exceeds my expectations. This one has. In this case, I have to provide some history and context. I am a bluegrass and fingerstyle guitarist. I have been in pursuit of an authentic sounding guitar pickup system for decades, and have used Fishman, K&K, LR Baggs Anthem, Lyric, etc. all top of the line systems, but they all sounded like...pickups. I perform with a Martin OM-45, and also have a pre-war 000-45. Needless to say I would like my pre-war Martin to sound like...a pre-war Martin (only louder). I am also for obvious reasons not willing to drill any holes in these guitars. Now you might be saying at this point, why doesn't this guy just close mic the guitar with a good condenser mic mounted on a mic stand? I tried that, and under the right circumstances that works, but only if you stand perfectly still and don't move around the sound hole. The DPA Mic can be mounted fairly close to the instrument and it is very resistant to feedback. I have never in fact had a feedback problem with it. It also has no proximity effect issues due to the mount. I currently connect the microphone to an XLR cable and clip it to my vocal mic stand. This gives me a 6-8' walking radius around the mic stand for some mobility. It also allows me to quickly swap instruments (I have used it on Banjos with excellent results). The other nice thing about the mic is that you can move it around during a performance to optimize your tone depending on the song. For example, I move the mic closer to the sound hole when capoing up the neck. In summary, I now consider ALL plug-in guitar pickups crap and would never again go back to a built in pickup again. The DPA mic isn't cheap, but I have spent a lot more money on things that didn't work. Lastly, I have no experience with this, but I am told they are used for studio recording quite often and have excellent recording quality.

Wow

Bought this for a guitarist that uses a 12 string acoustic that does not have a pickup, and now I have to find budget to get this thing for our other acoustic that uses a pickup. As I tested it on the guitar with a pickup first. Just no comparison, the Core 4099 is like night and day compared to an acoustic pickup. I have heard that before that acoustic pickups are not ideal, but I had no idea how stark the difference was, even for live PA performances.

Incredibly versatile and great sounding mic

I've used the 4099's for many years now and they have never failed to impress me in capturing a beautiful sound in a wide variety of studio and live sessions. They have a beautifully detailed, clear but warm sound especially for spot miking strings, woodwinds and percussion . The original version had rather fragile cables, but the newer models have rectified that issue and can take a reasonable amount of abuse without any issues. It's worth checking out Neumann's take on this concept as they definitely have a different character to the sound, but I am a big fan of the more neutral quality of the DPA's as well as the mounting options.
