A Gig-Worthy Box!
by Rev from NYC Area, October 2007
Music Background: Pro Musician - Bluegrass, Gospel and Country Stuff
Finally gigged this thing at one of my regular venues. When I kicked in those harmonies, you should have seen people's heads spinning around to look! Unbelieveable. Very easy to use especially when you have other equipment like a drum machine to set up for each song.
I just set my harmonies, hit those guitar chords and sang loud and clear on key. Wow! The only thing is not to over do it. I bring in the harmonies on maybe the last chorus of the song to "bring it home". Use sparingly, keep it real and it will amaze everyone. Jaws dropped and I was booked through next year right after that. Bless ya'll!
works amazingly

i use this all the time even without a guitar plugged

I've been waiting 10 years for this..

I own some of the earlier "studio quality" digitech
harmonizers....but this is the 1st one that reads
real-time chord input....and gets it right ! NO
programming....Everything they say is true . I will
be doing some gigs next year , with "pick-up"
musicians , who you can't expect to learn vocal harmony parts , and the V Live 2 will be perfect for
this type of "1 rehearsal and go" gigging. Plus , it's
a very transportable compact size...
Whoever wrote these algotithms should get an award..

DigiTech Vocalist Live 2 Delivers!
by Rev from NYC Area, August 2007
Music Background: Pro Musician, Music Ministry
Vocalist Live 2 vs. TC Helicon's VoiceLive. Finally test drove the Vocalist Live 2 at my local music store. Whoa! Right out of the box, the harmonies were sweet & true. Two guys shopping in the store said I sounded great. That was it. SOLD!
I haven't gigged it yet but it adds that recording studio polish you've always longed to take with you on the road. I play professionally but also have a music ministry, doing everything from traditional hymns to bluegrass and contemporary Christian music. The Vocalist Live 2 adds professional studio quality presence to every genre.
On the down side: The compression causes horrible mic feedback if turned up past 12 o'clock. Also the thing doesn't have an off switch. Comeon DigiTech! You have to unplug it from the power source. However, that did not stop me from preordering the Vocalist 4 which I am told should ship in September, (yeah, right)! Get this box and ditch those lazy, late back up singers. With the Vocalist 2, my BOSS Dr. Rhythm drum n' bass machine I don't have to pay anybody which is good because I don't get paid myself for charity performances. That's o.k. I have the best Boss in the world. May God bless!
Worth the wait!

Not kidding with the 5 star tag! After looking at the TC demo vids a couple of months ago I was seconds away from ordering a VoiceLive unit, despite having reservations about whether I could actually jump around enough to trigger guitar effects AND vocal effects from two separate footpedals. Fortunately, I stumbled across this neat box of tricks and immediately realised that the Digitech, rather than the TC was more suited to my needs. Why?
Firstly, TC have shot themselves in the foot by giving a demo video showing the artist practically tapdancing over (8??) pedal switches to give the harmonies required. Who the hell can do that live?
Secondly, this is guitar-centred. It works brilliantly WITHOUT a guitar plugged in, but excels when you do, even on slightly abnormal chords.
The next reason to buy this is because, for £250, it is a lot cheaper than paying backing singers every gig. 'Nuff said.
Finally, it is so easy to use. Ideally, I would like a couple of preset footswitches so I can pick which harmonies I'd like at a particular point, or for a particular song, but that's just being damn picky.
As a recording or gigging tool for a 4 or 5 piece band without dedicated backing vocalists, this really is the dog's knackers! Can't say anything else really! Except that mine will probably be on eBay in a couple of months so I can buy the Vocalist Live 4 and regret it 'cos it's more complicated!
Buy this, because I've never seen anything like it for value.
Amazing product for the price

This is a must have for any singer/songwriter who plays out in a small group setting. The harmonies are very nice and sound pretty good considering its not the TC helicon vocal processor. I prefer to just add one harmony on most songs though, if you add two it begins to sound like your singing a hymn or an eagles tune no matter what. Also on the effects side, the compressor sucks, but the reverb and enhance mode are decent enough for small gigs. I lead worship every wednesday and sunday, and this processor as helped tremendously with teaching and singing harmonies at my church.
DIGITECH VOCALIST LIVE 2 REALLY WORKS!
by John from Far Northern NY USA, July 2007
Music Background: Pro Musician / Electronic Hobbyist
I've experimented with electronic harmonization with several units for the last 2 or 3 technology generations. None of them, even units costing over $1K, can compare to this. As a guitar player and vocalist, I wanted something to be easy, with no midi input needed, and SOUNDING believable. The Vocalist Live 2 does all of this and is intuitive to use in the bargain.
Out of the box I tried a couple of songs where the harmonies are classic: "All I Have To Do Is Dream" by the Everly Bros., and "The Three Bells" by the Browns. Both were spot on and blew me away. I then tried any number of others and just kept getting more excited, to the point where I called my band mates and had them listen over the phone.
I found that the harmonization is maxed for vocals. I tried harmonica through it -notes only, no chords- and found the tracking spotty once above the normal vocal range. I found somewhat the same thing for trumpet, buy remember, this is a VOCAL unit. And at that it EXCELLS!
Has features the TC doesn't!

Convinced a local store to open it up and try it out in the store. WOW. Wayy better than the old purple rigs. This thing feels durable and is simple to use. It even works very well without any source but voice...as long as you sing in tune! Nice feature to have the vox stay separate from the gt mix as its sent to the board, unlike the TC voice live which you can separate the two. It sounds realistic and the mix knob blends just the right amount. Now I just want to try it with keys and with a bass before I buy it. Back to the store to lay again!
Vocalist live 2

After waiting several months for these to be released, it finally arrived yesterday and was one of the first shipped. (As promised by my salesperson several months ago). This thing sounds and performs as good as the ads. Unbelievable. Although I haven't gigged for a while, this is a vast improvement over the earlier harmony effects. This is going to open new doors for the smaller club bands on a budget.
