Imperfection is your key to jaw-dropping realism Imperfection - really? You bet. Recently, sample libraries have been getting increasingly "perfect," (and, dare we say, a tad sterile sounding). Enter your new best friend: imperfection. To attain a jaw-dropping level of realism, VSL captured the real-world imperfections in timing, dynamics, timbre, intensity, vibrato, intonation, bowing - and more - exhibited by real string players. The resulting realism is staggering. It's truly stunning what a little "imperfection" can do for your music! You get access to each individual voice The 24 string players recorded for Vienna Dimension Strings were captured in homogenous groupings - eight violins, six violas, six cellos, and four double basses, with all the interaction and minute imperfections of a live performance. The kicker is that VSL used individual mics on each player, giving you to access each voice individually. This opens up a ginormous sonic candy store that's certain to spark your creativity. Creating your signature string sound For Vienna Dimension Strings, VSL even recorded each string of every instrument in its full range - roughly one octave plus a fifth. The included presets let you decide whether the musicians will play on all strings - with a change to the next string in fifth intervals - or force them to play on a particular string. You can even omit open strings. With Vienna Dimension Strings, nailing your "signature" string sound has never been easier! Vienna Symphonic Library Dimension Strings Features at a Glance: Over 300,000 violin samples - up to one million samples for all four sections Four string sections of eight violins, six violas, six cellos, and four double basses Recorded in groups with individual microphones for each player, for amazing performance flexibility The full play range of each string was captured (one octave, plus a fifth) Three different sustains: vibrato, non-vibrato, and espressivo/progressive vibrato Legato performances, portamento performances, trill performances, and repetition performances Sculpt your ensemble sound by adjusting level and position in the mix for each player Ambient noises recorded for each individual player heighten realism Access advanced features such as Human Performance Control with Vienna Instruments PRO Got strings? At first glance this did not seem like much. However, getting into the details really changed my mind. The expressiveness and articulations that are available in this library are massive. Being abl... read more [+]e to split your violin section up is a massive helper when it comes to working out more realistic mock-ups. Another huge benefit is is splitting those instruments as played. Again, another great help. Also, the humanize function is welcomed and appreciated. It really does help add a sense of realism.May 23, 2013 Music Background: Composer/Musician Though currently this product does not contain all the sections yet, as they are released this will become a more and more important part in my rig. close [-] VSL Dimension Strings

I have to say, I am incredibly impressed with this library. I've been using VSL products for almost a year now, I have to say this is one of the best. While there may not be as many articulations as... read more [+] the Chamber Strings or the Solo Strings, the customization is almost limitless. I was able to use a couple of the soloed violins in a recent project, and they sounded absolutely fantastic by themselves. While there is a bit of bleeding when using a solo violin, when it's played with ensemble, it's hardly noticeable. November 2, 2012 Music Background: Recording Engineer, Pro Musician, Hobbyist The other benefit I found is that I am able to "audition" 8 individual players when I'm looking for a small solo for a soloist. Some samples sounded better than others, and that's the beauty of it all: imperfection. When playing the violins as the ensemble, the little imperfections stand out as a good thing, giving it a new level of realism. I was able to tweak each individual player to my liking, and with VI Pro, the humanization adds a whole new level. I would recommend this product to anyone who is looking to expand their sample library, or even take their first step. The learning curve is a bit tricky at first, but it can be learned within a short amount of time. close [-] VSL Dimension Strings

I have quite a few of the other libraries from VSL so I expected the product to be good. And I was rewarded with a product that was not only excellent but even exceeded the expectations I had for it. ... read more [+]The sounds are the closest thing I have been able to get to a real orchestral string sound (at least with violins, as that is the only component out yet). You'll have to spend some time learning as they are more complicated due to the huge amount of variation and control you have with this library. Works wonderfully with Vienna Ensemble Pro (5 in my case) and the new iPad app is the kicker. You can see all your layers and cells visually rather than having to recall all the keyswitch locations. Would have given it 5 stars but they haven't released the viola, cello and bass components yet. (though I cannot wait). close [-]

This is a great addition to any string library. The violins sound amazing and are very expressive. The learning curve is not too bad, but it does require some time to get the hang of it. So if your computer is up to it, take the dive and enjoy this inspiring library by VSL. I'm really looking forward for the remaining string sections to become available. close [-] The main advantage

The main advantage of the Dimension Strings, is that I can playing brutally forced fortissimo sound with short articulations that is key feature in fundamental principles of modern orchestration.
