ReviewsGreat solution - move to the DAW!

This little device is one heck of an interface. If you are like me and have been stuck in the Roland VS world, the V-Fire breaks you out. The VS does a great job of capturing the audio. The Pres ap... read more [+]pear decent along with the 24 bit recorded tracks. However, as I discovered, the real truth does not occur until you copy seamlessly from the Roland R-BUS directly to your DAW (in my case Cubase 5.0). The sonic clarity is awesome. The low end is right in your chest, the mids are spotless and high end is crystal clear. Vocals jump out at you. And you thought (like me) that the VS did not have what it takes? You would swear that you bypassed the Roland altogether. What a huge difference.July 29, 2009 Music Background: Musician, Recording, Live Sound I set up the Presonus V-Fire drivers on Win Vista. It works very well with the exception of changing the sampling rate and leaving it at anything but 44.1 will crash Cubase and the computer. You can use 96K, just remember to leave the sampling rate at 44.1 before exiting your DAW program. At some point, I will head down the path of Firewire or PCI Bus Pres. But for now, this is an awesome way to start! close [-] an observation

I feel like making a point on this product; If you are an owner of a Roland DAW such as the VS-2480CD, for example, and you understand that the mic pre's and A/D converters on the DAW are not as good... read more [+] (transparent) as say a Presonus I/O, and say you're hoping to do better, then this product is not actually a good solution. This product send up to 16 channels of what you're getting (post mic pre, and Roland A/D converter) and send that along via firewire 400 to your computer audio software application. Why would you do that? The signal has already been degradated - and now it's inside your computer. If sonic quality is a goal, I feel like a Presonus FireStudio Project or any other quality I/O such as a MOTU or Apogee would be a better investment for computer based sound recording/mixing. close [-]
