Everybody knows that tube watts are much louder than solid-state watts, and the 225-watt VB-2 takes full advantage of it. The all-tube preamp and power sections let you dial in everything from crystal clear and punchy to growling and edgy, and its active EQ features a multi-frequency mid adjustment, allowing you to be heard no matter what stage you're on - and sound great in the process! If you want to harness real tube tone for your bass rig, the VB-2 is your head!Peavey VB-2 Bass Amplifier Head at a Glance:
Tube power, great sounds The VB-2 is built around a tube power section that utilizes six EL34 tubes to deliver its 225 watts of power. By adjusting the Clean Gain and Overdrive Gain controls on the footswitchable Clean and Crunch channels, respectively, you can dial in tones ranging from the snarling grit of rock and metal to the weighty thump of old-school dub and reggae to clean, punchy hi-fi-all while delivering the necessary "cut" to maintain a strong bass presence in live performances. Great tone control Backing up the amplifier's tube growl is a 3-band EQ that combines the best attributes of passive and active tone controls. This section includes high and low controls, as well as a mid control with a four-position midrange selector switch that allows you to set the mid-frequency shift at 200, 400, 600 or 800Hz. Matches up with practically any cab Peavey's patented Resonance and Presence controls, which adjust the damping factor at the low and high ends, respectively, along with a three-way speaker impedance selector, enable players to match the VB-2 to virtually any bass speaker enclosure. A footswitchable mute/tuner circuit and front-panel effects loop gives you additional flexibility. Peavey VB-2 Bass Amplifier Head Features:

This amp was amazing right from the first time I played through it. It's uncomplicated EQ layout makes it super easy to dial in a wide pallet of tones. The only thing I disapprove of is putting the FX... read more [+] loop on the front, its not the best solution, it's very cumbersome to have cables out the front of your amp. There is plenty of room on the back of the amp so there is no reason to put it there. Continuing, the clean channel does break up quite early if you really dig into it, but the availability of low and high gain inputs lets you select a configuration that works for your set up. The presence and resonance controls are the MOST important controls there are, I didn't bother to play around with them and boy was I wrong, they drastically change the behavior of the amp. One thing that surprised me from the beginning was the volume, I run it through two Trace-Elliot 1048H cabs and I was disappointed with the volume. Turns out this amp is such a monster the outlets in my house do not provide the minimum 15A the amp needs to run at full power. Long story short, great deal for the money. Buy it. close [-]

It`s hard to test every amp and cab out there so I take chances sometimes. I lucked out with this one. Try this with 2 4/10 tour cabs for a real treat. This head is just the right size, power, and weight for medium duty applications. I play it through a Carvin 2-10 neo cabinet. This combination is a thumping machine. Plenty of power with hifi tone... read more [+]. The head has simple yet effective tone shaping features. I do not see the need for the resonance knob since it acts like a bass boost, which this amp does not need. I would have liked an additional volume control for the distortion channel so the relative output with the clean channel could be blended without changing the master volume. Other than that, this amp does everything I need, and it is whisper quiet at idle. close [-]
