Four Channels of Bus-powered Recording at an Affordable Price!

We're excited to offer the US-144mkII by TASCAM. The US-144mkII carries on the excellent value demonstrated by the original US-144, with a new look and updated electronics. If you're into recording on the go with a laptop computer, or simply need a robust and reliable recording interface with a modest footprint to keep your desk neat and organize, then we're sure that you'll love the US-144mkII. Dual XLR microphone preamps provide phantom power to condenser microphones, while an assortment of other inputs let you hook up all of your favorite audio gear directly to the US-144mkII.

The US-144mkII runs on bus power received through its USB 2.0 connection, so you don't need to bother with any additional power supplies. That makes it incredibly useful for recording in the field or on the go with your laptop computer. A system for zero-latency hardware monitoring makes recording instruments of all kinds — especially meeting the high demands of guitarists — fun and headache free.

The US-144mkII comes with a complimentary copy of Steinberg's Cubase LE5. So, all you need is a Mac or PC computer, and you're all ready to record up to 48-tracks. The US-144mkII includes a switchable guitar level input, so you can record right into Cubase and take advantage of its built-in effects. And with the US-144mkII's MIDI capabilities, you're also ready to use your MIDI controller to add virtual instrument performances.

Good for the price.

This is my first audio interface that I have ever used and I have to say that it is better than I expected. The mic pres are better than you would expect from such a low end interface. The only reason... read more [+] I gave it four stars instead of five was because of some high pitch ring coming out of my moniters after I power up the us 144. Not sure why its doing that but it can be worked around. Definetly worth the money. Oh and Eddie at sweetwater is the man!!! close [-]

Very good value. Gets the job done. Drivers compatible with OS X Lion!

Does everything that you need an audio/midi interface unit to do. Very sleek and compact. I had no trouble recording audio onto Logic Pro via OS X Lion, so the MAC drivers are up to speed. TASCAM's... read more [+] tech support is responsive and helpful.

For those who reported weak output or clip distortion? Either you got a bad unit from Tascam or you need to make some adjustments along your signal chain. Either way, contacting either Sweetwater's tech support or even Tascam's should resolve any signal leveling issues or secure unit replacement without extra cost to you.

The only reason I take off a star is that the dials are not set tight enough into the unit, and they move too freely when manipulated. They still work and the unit functions as expected, but the loose feel of the dials suggests to the senses that the unit is of cheap construction, even though it functions perfectly. Also this flaw makes it just a tad bit harder to control the dials with precision. It's just a picky point to consider.

Overall, I'd recommend this unit for your recording needs, esp if you're on a budget. It works very well and is a great value!

Cheers! close [-]

Does The Job Well

Lets get the record straight. I've read a lot of reviews on this and similar units. There is one common thread which makes the choice un-necessarily confusing. Computer operating systems are quirky an... read more [+]d we're quirky. We don't always know how to set up the sometimes complex parameters on our system. Thus the reviews run from glorious to condemnation. My comments are going to be about the device itself. It's new so I'm still tweaking the buffers for best performance vs latency.
Tascam has been around quite a while, and this unit is very popular for good reason. It's plain good. Everything works fine. The preamps are good and the control functions are well thought out and very useful. The line inputs work well with the output of an mp3 player so anything of that nature can be successfully employed. The drivers are good and it simply does the job without compromise. My only caveat is my preference for a stronger headphone signal. Monitoring with headphones is important and hearing at a good strong level is crucial. I'm not saying it's by any means weak, it could just be a little better.
I think most USB units are pretty comparable, such as my Cakewalk UA 25EX. Look for the features you need, learn the necessary software adjustments and you'll have a really nice tool.
My Tascam US-144 MK2 came with Cubase but I haven't tried that. I'm using Reaper. I don't think included DAW's are a deal maker or breaker. If that is your priority, I think any USB interface should do fine.
The Tascam US-144 MK2is my remote unit and I feel I made a good choice. It produces clean sound and is quite solid I'm very happy. close [-]

Just a Toy

it works, and that's it, if you need any sort of quality i would not get this product, the AD/DA converters are some of he worst quality i've seen, the pots and nobs feel like they came out of toys 'r... read more [+] us, i would defiantly spend the extra money and an M-box or at least a Presonus.

with that said, latency was never an issue, and it might work fork fine for pod cast or something.

hope this helps!! close [-]

Buyer Beware!

by Todd from VA

I'm using this interface with XP and I'm having nothing but problems with the audio. First, the preamps are weak and lack life. You have to crank them waaaay up to get any type of decent signal and wh... read more [+]en you crank them there's a lot of hiss. There's also pops in the audio and computer noise. Completely unacceptable when you're trying to record a project. My computer worked fine with my old usb interface and I downsized to this. Big mistake! close [-]
