I give this unit a 90 out of 100.
by Andre Berry from North Hollywood, CA, June 2008

There are so many positives about this unit, I hate even bringing up it's shortcomings. The positives: It is built for the road. Rock solid and sturdy. I don't think it will break easily.
My direct bass recorded beautifully. Straight in. The tone was warm, deep, clear as a bell, defined and punchy. That is a requirement for me. The preamps are great. I have 4 other Audio interfaces in this price range and this one's preamps are the best to me. Period. It is small enough and sturdy enough to throw in your bag! Thats great with all the flight restrictions and weight restrictions these days. It records 24 bit beautifully! Ok the only downsides: The headphone amp is weak. My iPod blows it away. I mean I have to crank it all the way up to get decent level and even then it is weak. Bummer...secondly the direct signal monitor level is even weaker. I want to take a wrench and crank it up...With people blasting iPods as loud as they do, why they would wimp out on this area is beyond me, but I have to say, I connected a boostaroo headphone booster and it is all good. With that addition I have more level than I will ever need. I am rocking in my own music world. I'd say the pros do outweigh the cons and if sound quality and durable road travel are priorities for you, you need look no further than this unit. I have tried many and this one records great, is versatile and is rugged to boot!
GREAT Interface

Would you believe it if I say that I get 2.2ms latency on this baby? Yes, I get 2.2ms. To someone on here who can't record on other sample rates...you need to set the driver to advance mode. You actually need to set it to advance anyways.. otherwise return the box and get your money back..and use the onboard sound. The advance mode button is more like an ON button!! :p

I noticed one of the reviewers here has said that it only records at 44.1.
It will record at 96 but only when the advance switch is on (it says so on the back of the box).
I've not had mine long enough to give it a full review but so far - great!
Nice product, but...

I have a good friend who has this - and so when I looked to purchase an interface, I nearly got this. However, I was convinced to buy a FireBox instead, and I'm glad I did. The FireBox has firewire instead, giving it a fantastic latency. Do yourself a favor, and spend the extra $$ to buy the FireBox.
Looks Like a Great Unit
by john from LA,CA, March 2006
I read tons of info on this product and I have to say it has great features. Also the 96 kHz sample rate for recording or monitoring. Not both but who needs to playback at 96 kHz as long as it's recording at that resolution then that’s enough. Fast track pro seems to be very similar direct monitoring for zero-latency
Great little unit for mobile recording
by Jonny from UK, November 2005
I have been using the UA-25 for several months now and have to admit to being a bit of a fan. The unit is small, well built, portable, bus powered and has a nice suite of features. The sound quality of the XLR balanced inputs is very natural, clean, low noise and uncoloured.
Admittedly the mic preamps are not the quietest I have ever used, but unless you have a super low noise transformer coupled mic the odds are they will be more than adequate for the purpose.
Zero latency monitoring, including mono sum, is very simple to use and great when tracking guitars and vocals using a Sequencer such as Sonar.
The limiter is really not that useful as it is fixed at a 2:1 compression ratio with a threshold of -12dB, so it might be useful for supressing the occasional transient but will not replace a decent outboard compressor.
The drivers for XP are absolutely rock solid and stable, I have had no issues whatsoever with the v1.0.0 drivers shipped with the unit, in both WDM and ASIO. You can set latency as low as 3ms with no stuttering or dropouts, which is approaching the limits of a USB device, due to the buffer size inherent in the USB spec.
Overall a great sounding, versatile and very good value for money. Ideal for recording on the move with a decent laptop.
Edirol UA-25
by Steve Terry from Bonney Lake, WA, November 2005
I've been using this the last few weeks to record live - It does a great job getting sound into the computer via the USB connection. I've noticed it to be very clean-sounding, no noise. Was a little disappointed the sample rate only applies to play-back. Recording is only at 44.1K.
