From Our Research Team:

An Audio Interface for the Road!

The Edirol UA-25 USB Audio and MIDI Interface is a powerful USB Audio/MIDI interface designed to offer premium sound quality, rugged durability, and complete portability for your mobile computer-based recording rig. The UA-25 is compact and sturdy enough to travel anywhere you can take your computer.

Edirol UA-25 USB Audio and MIDI Interface at a Glance:
  • Stereo audio interface with phantom-powered mic/line preamps and S/PDIF digital I/O
  • Includes +4dBu balanced outputs for pro connections
  • Zero latency direct monitoring
  • Built-in analog compressor for clip-free field recording
  • Completely portable: rugged, USB powered, never needs a wall socket

Premium quality stereo audio interface
The UA-25 uses powerful analog electronics coupled with well-matched A/D & D/A converters for superior audio fidelity. You'll find a wide range of inputs and outputs in a compact case - a pair of Neutrix XLR/TRS combo jacks with phantom power, a Hi-Z port for guitar direct connection and 24-bit/96kHz S/P DIF optical I/O ports. The UA-25 also features a pair of high quality microphone preamps using premium analog components. It provides a clean recording environment to give you crystal-clear recording.

Premium analog and digital output
The seasoned audio professional will love the UA-25 for its ability to output audio at +4dBu from the balanced 1/4" outputs, making it ideal for professional connections between the field and the studio. And with digital output with 24-bit/96kHz resolution, you can't go wrong with digital transfers!

Monitoring made simple
Have to listen in real time? Monitor direct! The UA-25 includes a power set of direct monitor controls that allow you to route audio directly from the inputs to the outputs and the headphone jack, so you can listen with zero latency. You can also turn direct monitoring on or off, adjust the relative volume of the UA-25's input signal compared to your computer's audio out and even set the signal to monitor in mono. This lets you hear a microphone plugged into the left input in both headphones, plus check for phasing issues by monitoring in mono.

Built-in compressor
Another reason to consider the UA-25 as ideal for use in the field is its built-in analog mild compressor. This allows a little more flexibility in setting microphone levels and allows you more freedom from audio clipping. If your first take is your only chance, you DON'T want to get caught without this feature!

Rugged, portable, powerful
The UA-25 is USB Powered, so you never have to plug it into a wall socket, but it manages to run condenser microphones with 48V phantom power. Its high-grade aluminum chassis means the UA-25 can withstand hard impacts that are normally associated with traveling or working in the field. In addition, aluminum is an excellent shield against high-frequency interference from other electrical components. Plus, the UA-25 supports ASIO2.0, WDM, MME, and CoreAudio so it's compatible with virtually every Mac and Windows application.

Add it all up: 24-bit/96kHz audio performance, MIDI I/O, S/PDIF optical I/O, and Neutrix XLR/TRS inputs with high-grade microphone preamps, and the UA-25 is everything you need to get superb audio to and from your computer!

Edirol UA-25 USB Audio and MIDI Interface Features:
  • Solid aluminum chassis is portable and durable
  • Premium audio quality preamps and 24-bit digital I/O
  • Mic/Line, instrument, S/PDIF and MIDI I/O
  • Built-in analog limiter
  • Zero latency direct monitoring
  • USB bus power
  • +4 dBu output for professional application

Would you believe it if I say that I get 2.2ms latency on this baby? Yes, I get 2.2ms. To someone on here who can't record on other sample rates...you need to set the driver to advance mode. I give this unit a 90 out of 100.

There are so many positives about this unit, I hate even bringing up it's shortcomings. The positives: It is built for the road. Rock solid and sturdy. I don't think it will break easily.
My di... read more [+]rect bass recorded beautifully. Straight in. The tone was warm, deep, clear as a bell, defined and punchy. That is a requirement for me. The preamps are great. I have 4 other Audio interfaces in this price range and this one's preamps are the best to me. Period. It is small enough and sturdy enough to throw in your bag! Thats great with all the flight restrictions and weight restrictions these days. It records 24 bit beautifully! Ok the only downsides: The headphone amp is weak. My iPod blows it away. I mean I have to crank it all the way up to get decent level and even then it is weak. Bummer...secondly the direct signal monitor level is even weaker. I want to take a wrench and crank it up...With people blasting iPods as loud as they do, why they would wimp out on this area is beyond me, but I have to say, I connected a boostaroo headphone booster and it is all good. With that addition I have more level than I will ever need. I am rocking in my own music world. I'd say the pros do outweigh the cons and if sound quality and durable road travel are priorities for you, you need look no further than this unit. I have tried many and this one records great, is versatile and is rugged to boot! close [-]

I noticed one of the reviewers here has said that it only records at 44.1.

It will record at 96 but only when the advance switch is on (it says so on the back of the box).
