FROM PSR 8000 TO TYROS
by Lynton from Manchester from Manchester, UK, August 2007
Music Background: Semi - pro musician
The first thing I'd like to say is the Tyros 2 is an absolutely awesome machine and certainly, as a musician of many years, I can honestly say this instrument has caused me to re-invent myself, both as a player and to my approach to live performance. Like one of your readers, I also previously used a PSR8000 which I still have. I purchased the Tyros 2 around 10 months ago but have hung onto the 8000 like a comfort blanket, basically because I have had enormous difficulty, (having transferred all my music files from old to new), in getting the Tyros 2 to understand these files and play them without fault. There has been a tremendous amount of editing, tweaking, re- recording of tracks - vocal harmony triggering where it should not - vastly swirling overdone and uncontrollable vocal reverb and an instruction manual that refers very little to vocal harmony at all (it was just the same on the PSR8000). Anyone buying this amazing instrument "from scratch" will have enormous fun, but buyer beware, if you are thinking that you can transfer (in my case of over 7 hours of) midi files from another Yamaha instrument and expect everything to play faultlessly, then get som advice first - 10 months on, I'm still making adjustments - I'd love to here from anyone with similar experiences.
Excellent sound quality&realism
by Johnny from Europe, July 2006
Music Background: Pro Musician/Rock/Pop/Jazz, keyboard, singer/songwriter
I got it a couple of weeks ago and use it mainly on making demos (also a couple of times a month for gigging). I record on my pc/firewire410/traction2/tyros2 -combo. Sound quality is just amazing. When you do your recordings this way, it´s very hard to tell if real actual instruments were used or was it just a keyboard. Best keyboard I´ve ever used or heard.
Good...

The Tyros 2 is a good piece of equipment, espcially for beginning musicians and those who do not wish to create music from scratch. There are a number of music styles and phrases that you can build songs from. True, many of the sounds are great, but you could get a Motif ES rack and Kurzweil and be equally happy. You'd save money, too! It does have Internet access, which makes it a big plus to download other musical styles from other companies, like Roland, Korg, etc. The effects are decent. Before you purchase a Tyros 2, make sure to really play it and check out its sequencer to see if it will suit your needs.
Awesome
by Kirk Fischer from Temple, TX, February 2006
The articulated voices are incredible - they rival my Gigastudio sampled strings. The piano is pure. The drums are the best I've heard from a "machine." The reworked keyboard action is really responsive without feeling spring-like sterile. It's expensive for a reason - it's great. I replaced my seven-year-old PSR8000 with this and do not regret it.
The only part I don't like is the organ sounds. They're not great - a little more like a Lowrey than a Hammond B3. (But I have that covered with my Roland VK7... so no big deal to me.)
It's superb in my Sunday praise-and-worship gig as well as in my studio. Highly recommended.
