This piece is a good place to start if you want to turn old tapes or records into CD's with your computer.

Works ok...if you get it to work at all

The least expensive way to get Pro Tools M-Powered onto your computer and working without breaking the law!

I have had this for a couple of years and I have had some problems installing... read more [+] the hardware and drivers, but had a great time once i got passed that barrier.

Make sure you download and pre-install the newest M-Audio Drivers from their site before even plugging it in. This will help ensure you dont mess up your chance of a clean install before even trying.

If you are using Windows XP, make sure to plug it in and install the driver from the specific place you stored your Downloaded M-Audio Driver on EACH USB PORT. Otherwise the unit will work in one port, but try to install itself when plugged into a new port.

For very basic A/D, D/A this gets it done, but with some bumps in the road. Although it does work great with Pro Tools M-Powered which is a definate plus.

I would definately give a sweetwater sales enginner a call before buying this to do anything more than turn grandmas vinyls into CDs or for basic Pro Tools Editing! close [-]

Proceed with Caution

Bought a Transit from Sweetwater a few weeks ago.

Sweetwater: Top notch. Could not be better.

Transit Hardware: Excellent.

Transit Driver Software ... read more [+]for Mac OS 9: Unusable junk.

Transit Driver Software for Mac OS 1.0.3.4: OK.

Todd in Sweetwater support did an outstanding job of working with me and getting me hooked up with the M-Audio support folks in an expedient way.

The target computer is a Mac G4 TiBook, 667 MHz, running OS 9.2.2 and Panther 10.3.4, with 9.2.2 preferred. The Transit was chosen to replace the unusably baaad Griffin iMic (poor audio; nowhere close to meeting its lesser specs).

Neither the most recent 1.5.4 nor earlier 1.5.1 drivers for OS 9 are operable on the input side. Whether in Amadeus II 3.7.2, Coaster 1.1.3, Sound Studio 2.0.7, or the OS 9.2.2 Sound control panel, the level meters display garbage (probably noise), and input level adjustment is not possible. More often than not, attempting to record crashes the system. The very same computer and software has no such functional nor stability problems with the iMic... just inferior sound quality. The M-Audio drivers are sooooo bad that they even prevent the internal TiBook mic from working, until they are disabled.

Both Todd at Sweetwater and several folks at M-Audio recommended setting aside our ěunreliableî (per M-Audio) and untrustworthy shareware and freeware programs for something which supports ASIO drivers, which appears to be $$ payware programs like BIAS Peak. We downloaded the demo of Peak LE 3.2. Hard to tell if that would be a solution, because Peak itself was so wildly unstable that it was difficult to do any testing. Pay $80 for unstable software that does not have all the features we need, just to make the Transit happy? I think not!

Leaving behind OS 9, things worked better in OSeX... at least for us. No problems under 10.3.4 with drivers v. 1.5.7f1 and Transit firmware 1.00. Please note that we were only using the electrical (not optical) ins and outs, and not testing the DTS support. Also note that there are legions of users who are reporting Transit problems under OSeX at places such as xlr8yourmac.com. Check out that site and be sure to make good use of a conversation with your Sweetwater sales engineer (hi Dave) before buying, to minimize wasted time and frustration.

Wishing everyone trouble-free A/D and D/A,

Our Customers Say...

Ninety-five percent of everything in this studio came from Sweetwater. My Sales Engineer is a lifesaver. I started working with him around 2005, talking to him about what my vision was for the studio. He was right there all the way.
