Studio Amp Modeling & Effects Are Now Stage Ready!

Announcing the VOX Valvetronix ToneLabSE – a large-format multi-effect modeling pedal board processor with the awesome sonic power and warm and fat distortion of pure tube sound, a wide range of built-in effects, and two expression pedals for complete performance power. VOX Valve Reactor Circuit Delivers True Tube Amp Sound ToneLabSE features the acclaimed VOX Valve Reactor found on Valvetronix series amps and the ToneLab amp/effects modeler. The VOX Valve Reactor circuit uses a 12AX7 triode vacuum tube together with an actual low-wattage tube power amp circuit, a virtual output transformer, and a dummy speaker circuit that simulates the impedance changes of a real speaker. It also reconfigures itself so that its characteristics are the same as the amps it’s modeling (class A, class AB, negative feedback circuit, etc.) This means that all of the nuances of the original amp model including sound, feel, distortion and presence are reproduced.    Sophisticated Modeling Technology ToneLabSE provides sixteen accurate and versatile amp models that use the sophisticated modeling technology proven throughout the Valvetronix series. Starting with VOX’s own AC30, the models cover a range from classic amps to built-to-order handmade amps, from vintage to modern, from clean to hi-gain. The ToneLab SE also has eleven cabinet models that faithfully replicate the cabinet shape and the number and type of speakers. ToneLab SE operation is easy – you simply turn a knob to combine different amp and cabinet models.       A Range Of High-Quality Effects The Vox ToneLab SE's effects are categorized into modulation, delay, and reverb, with eleven types provided for each category. The effects range from stomp box to studio-quality effects, and include even a rare analog chorus, rotary speaker, and vintage delay/echo. Some the ToneLab SE's effects let you change the output settings (monaural, stereo, or stereo output of wet/dry signals) or the connection order of the modulation, delay, and reverb effects for even more flexibility. There are also sixteen pedal effects, including wah, overdrive, distortion, fuzz and acoustic simulator. ToneLab SE's easy knob-based editing means that you can easily tweak this rich array of effect types and parameters to your personal taste. 96 Program Memories The Vox ToneLab SE's amp, cabinet, and effect settings can be saved into 96 programs locations. For each program, you can store two channels (A and B) of amp and cabinet settings. There are also 32 preset programs that contain classic settings for each amp model. Extensive Expressive Potential ToneLabSE provides two expression pedals that you can use to control wah, volume and many other effect parameters. You can assign the ToneLab SE's pedals to control the delay time, modulation speed or depth, or many other parameters, giving you an enormous range of creative possibilities. The Quick Assign function makes it easy to assign a parameter at a single touch. Smooth Operation You can assign the ToneLab SE's control switches to control parameters such as tap tempo, effect on/off, or rotary speed switch. Vox's ToneLab SE really shines on stage, literally; the LCD screen that displays parameter names and detailed information is backlit for increased visibility. A valve icon shows the number and model of the power tubes used in the original amp that’s being modeled. Convenient send/return jacks are provided on the ToneLab SE, allowing you to connect external insertion effects such as distortion or overdrive. You can also switch the insertion effect on/off at a touch of a foot switch. And ToneLabSE’s metal chassis exudes an aura of solidity and reliability. Editing Software Lets You Save And Edit Sounds Dedicated editing software for Vox ToneLabSE can be downloaded from www.voxamps.co.uk. This software displays all parameters, making editing the ToneLab SE even easier, and also lets you stockpile an unlimited number of sound programs. Independent built-in Auto Chromatic Tuner The Vox ToneLab SE's built in Auto Chromatic Tuner has its own independent LED display for excellent visibility. The tuner also provides a mute function for silent tuning on stage. Vox Valvetronix Modeling For DAW Vox also offers the ToneLab, a desktop version with the same Effects and Modeling features as the ToneLAb SE. You can record your live sound settings in your project studio with the ToneLab, and leave the ToneLab SE packed with your live sound gear. Vox ToneLab SE Features and Specs:

Seriouse SOUND for Stage and Recording!

by Musikman4Christ from USA

Music Background: 27 years of Guitar playing and recording
Let me just say this; This is the easiest and simplest floor unit ever made, that has this humongous arsenal of technology, PERIOD!

To get the sound you basically turn the knobs, hit wr... read more [+]ite and your tone is there. Patch editing is so intuitive and simple, it is a truly no brainer. The Tonelab SE PC editor is so awsome and intuitive also. IT really helps so that you dont have to break your back going up and down to the unit on the floor to edit it. This is how it works:
You hook it up to the PC via midi in and out, once you turn on your TLSE, and launch the Editor; it automatically receives all your onboard patches from the TLSE (TONELAB). Now you have a really simple and clear view of what is on you TLSE. The names of the patches, the cabs, amps, everything is there on your big flat screen. It is in one word, SUPERB!!!! I just can't say it enough. But I really love this editor. I can go on and on, but you get the picture. This system was made for guitar players. No nonsense stuff, it is made to make you want to play your guitar and enjoy this beautifull instrument.

Manual? What is that? Well, just kidding. I did read the entire manual which is not that big at all, but I truly think you should read it. You will definitely get an awsome understanding of the huge undertaking that VOX did you give you the product you have. It really made me appreciate it and understand it a whole lot more. And it really sounds like it was written by a fellow rocker than some technical meat head that knows circuits and not the guitar. Kudos to VOX for the awesome job on the Tonelab’s manual. I give it a perfect 10.
I have not used the manual ever since I finished reading it. Not even the PC editors manual. Is there one? Well, who cares cause its not needed at all. Thats how easy it is to use.

First of all, I want to say this. If you can't get the sound you want, or, you feel the unit is not sounding like it should, its because you probably have the GLOBAL Setting set to AMP. If you are using your headphones or you are connnecting the TLSE to a mixer or PC soundcard, you MUST change the setting to "LINE". This makes all the difference in the world. You will not beleive your ears. If any of you guys are going to Guitar Center or anyother music center, make sure to really enjoy the TLSE, you must first make this setting change. Because it is default to AMP and many people will not experience the beauty of the sound this way. Also, make sure at the store you get the best headphones they can loan you. Or make sure you hear the TLSE in STEREO. That is the only way you will truly appreciate the sound. Don't get me wrong, it sound nice in mono too, but to appreciate the fullness of the sound, it has to be in stereo if you can. OK, i'm glad that is out of the way, because some people do not know this and they get turned off because of this oversight.

The effects on the unit are very nice. I love each of them. The delays, reverbs and chorus are top notch, and are worth the price of the unit alone.

Let me say this, the only two amps I have ever played live were the Jazz chorus 120 and my beloved Musicman 2x12 tube, which was stolen and I never got it back. I miss it for ever. This is the only amp tube experience I have. But who needs experience? As a musician, you know when you got your tone just right. You know when you hit the dial and hit the spot right on. Thats exactly how I felt when I tweaked my TLSE. It was awsome to dial in my tone. And the most awsome part was doing it on the huge 19 inch flat panel screen, and seen my TLSE respond in perfect realtime!!!! Unbeleivable.

So right now, I have my TLSE going into my PC into cubase and Ableton LIVE, hooked up directly in stereo to my EMU 1212m audio soundcard. I could never have dreamed of a better setup. The sound is amazing and I know a lot of folks complain that they cannot use the Wah with distortion or compressor, I dont know why they complain. I have no idea why when you can make the amp sustain and distortion so beautifully by just tweaking the knobs. OH, and this brings me to an awsome, I mean truly awsome know on the TLSE. THi is the VR knob.

When you push this baby to max, it sends your tone directly to the TUBE and this is as natural compression and sustain as you will ever get. This is guys, the real Mackoy!! Seriously, if you know, the more you push the tube the more compression you will get, and it really sounds so awsome specially when you add the wah to it. OH Man, I cant explain it with mere words. I wish you could hear it. Imaging pushing my amp through this tube and then moving the expression pedal for the wah, and finding that sweet spot where it just sounds right.

Well, I did this last night and I just had to write that patch to memory. Thats how easy it is to get that Distortion and Sustain everyone wants, and on top of that adding the icing of the case, adding WAH, VOX WHAT that is!!!! Folks, it doesnt get any better that that.

With any amp, you get out what you put in. This is the real thing man. I know with some other digital effects units, you can hook up a cheap guitar with cheap pickups and sound like a million dollars. Ok, not with the tonelab. You will still sound awsome, but then you will notice that you will get noise. Just like you wuold if you hooked up to a very expensive amp.

Now, I have a 1982 Gibson LP standard and 1979 Fender Strat, the LP is so quiet and hot there are no words. Now, the Fender was making so much hum and noise that I had to replace my Pickups to the LACE sensor HOT. It made all the difference in the world. Now, I have the pristine sound of Fender, with the awsome highs, and the hot tone of the LACE hot sensor pickups. IT really brings out the best of the TLSE now. So just keep this in mind, because that is just how it is, and I will not lie.

Never deal with customer support. No comment here, but since they made such awsome product, easy to use, and simple interface with awsome editor, I have to give them a 10. The manual is so clear and consice, they should have given the author royalties for such awonderful job on the manual.

I play Christian rock and workship. Perfect match. You know, that most awsome thing about this unit, is how it doesn't ruin the sound of you guitar. Its like you can have this amp fully cranked and still be able to tell the strumming of the strings. Its hard to explain with workds, but its something I couldnt feel with any other effects boards. The only one that came close was the Digitech GNX4. But it still was not there like the TLSE.

I have been playing for almost 26 years. I play to worship the King of Kings. Our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ. I thank God for VOX and for all the engineers that put so much effort in making this amazing tool to make music for God.

If this unit was stolen, I would really cry. Seriously. I think I could not take it. But things can be replaced and not life. So I would definitely buy another one.

In a few words, what I really love of this unit is its no nonsense approach to making music. You have all the tones you could ever dream of. All at your disposal and to make an unimaginable amount of you patches via the editor or right on the unit, with the utmost simplicity, just like you had you VOX amp in front of you and turned the knobs on the amp till you got your tone and voila!! Thats how easy it is on the TLSE. It doesnt get any better that this my friends.

I sold my Digitech GNX4. I thought I was going to use all the features on it, but I honestly didnt. I did a few times, but thats it. The sound of the GNX4 is superb and pro too. I cant say the same for the Pod units and XT live units. To me, those are ok for fun and to get exited about playing the guitar. For Professional recording and ONStage equipment and sound, it has got to be the Tonelab SE>period. Of course if you have way more cash, you can definitely go another route, but for this price range, the TLSE is the real Mackoy folks. Bar none, the ultimate TUBE sound at your feet. So if youre in the market for a floor unit, look no further. Do not get confused with all the bells and whistles of other units. Although the ones on the Digitech GNX4 are truly usefull, only get that unit if you intend to use those features. Which, in reality do come in handy. I had one and I can attest of their versatility and usefullness.

BUT, if you want true PRO sound and look it has got to be the TONELAB SE.

Warmest regards to all,

Musikman4Christ close [-]

Ive been to edge of the earth with equipment

Ive had marshalls(jcm 800/900),vox(ac30tb),fender (deville, bassman)peaveys(classic series), Line6(flextone 2 head) and countless others not to mention a crapload of effects. I loved them all (especial... read more [+]ly my 800 and ac30) but to lug them around was a pain in my back.(ac30!!!!) now its TLSE>Mesa Boogie Power amp>Marshall Cab. Easy as 1,2,3!! Every tone within 90% (and nobody notices the other 10% when your on stage) Im completely blown away from the tone I have. 100% tube tone and feel. All these great amps and effects in one easy package with no compromises. Ill never go back to an expesive amp again, great memories those amps but never again. If I had this 20 years ago my mortgage would have been paid off by now. close [-]

Real Tube Feel & Sound

by Thomas Castonzo from Chicago, IL USA
June 8, 2006
Music Background: Freelance guitarist & studio musician
OK, let me start by saying that I'm a tube amp guy and I've always played through primarily tube amps so I'm familiar with the way the tubes and speakers react to a guitarist's touch. I love the warm... read more [+]th and creamy/cushy/crunchy tone that my tube amps produce. After reading about the Tonelab SE, I decided to try it out with some DAW recording that I was doing as well as an effective and convenient alternative to bringing a hand truck full of gear to the recording studios for sessions. I was immediately impressed with the Tonelab's tone and ease-of-use-- I used it on a few commercial recording sessions where it was appropriate and the tone and functionality was great. I was so intrigued with the Tonelab that I brought it to a gig and used as a pedal board going into a 60's Fender Twin. Very easy to program with a ton of amp/speaker combinations plus every effect you could think of. Works very much like most typical guitarists custom pedal boards. Bottom line, if you appreciate convenience but do not want to sacrifice tone, the Tonelab SE will not disappoint you. It will never replace a blackface or plexi but NOTHING ever will. close [-]

Like having an arsenal of REAL sounding tones...in ONE box!!!

by Jimmi from Rogers, AR

I've had this for about two months now and I still haven't found anything bad to say about it. I use it two ways: 1-with the amp models OFF and into a marshall 1987x amp (i use it this way for all the... read more [+] effects - they are more "analog" sounding than any other unit i've tried) 2-straight into the p.a. system with the amp models ON. WOW! The sound just has a great, natural tone to it. The first practice session i showed up to with this was all it took...our other guitarist went and bought one immediately.
