  Wow. Nice Job Vox
by Tom from Lacaster, PA, August 2008
Music Background:  20 years guitar, keys, bass and recording hobbyist

I am really impressed with this unit. I have a fender twin reverb and about $1500 worth of stompboxes. I'm kinda a tone nut. I bought this to use at church so I wouldn't have to drag my amp around. After about half an hour of tweeking I nailed the sound of my twin at about 98%. I A-B tested it to recordings I did with the twin for a few songs. Sounded almost identical and without all the noise from the twin. I even was very happy with the spring reverb I got and Fender reverb is hard to match. I wasn't immediately impressed with the distortion effects but the amp modeling and other effects are superb. The presets are really kinda useless so don't judge the unit by what they give you from the factory. You really have to get in and know what you are doing to match the sound from the original amps. I seriously am considering selling my twin and my delay and chorus pedals. I will keep my English Muffin and Mesa tube distortion pedals as well as my 808 tube screamer. This blows away the new pod as well as the digitech unit I tried. Nice Job Vox.

Great Item ...and MUCH cheaper that buying all those pedals

I would have given the VOX Tonelab LE a 5 star rating but I believe any piece of gear that requires you to read a manual is defective. When I arrived home today my 14 year old had the Tonelab hooked up and was messing with it. Within 20 minutes I had the EXACT sound for the Pulse cut of Pink Floyd “shine on you crazy diamond” dialed in and saved. I tried this on my Crate GX-212 and on my little VOX Pathfinder 15R. The amp models sound real good as do the cab’s. This unit is just a lot of bang for the buck. The only other multi-FX unit I had tried was the Vamp-2. I didn’t like the Vamp because you have very little input on the FX you select. With the Tonelab LE everything is as tunable as pedals or amps. One of my big hang ups is any effect that changes my volume. The Tonelab has some very high gain settings that are LOUD, but you can hit a menu button and set it where you want it. For what I do most of the presets will have to be tweaked but that’s a simple task. This is my first big multi-FX unit and I’ll be 45 years old tomorrow and I fined the unit easy to operate. When I finish looking over the manual I’m sure I’ll like it even more.

  Speaker sims
by David Dyer from Indiana, February 2008
Music Background:  long time guitarist (tube snob)

If you the unit into a tube amp with no speaker sims it sounds great, but it didn't sound very amp like threw my Firepod or headphones with the speaker sims.

  Just the amp so far
by David Dyer from Indiana, February 2008
Music Background:  Guitar Tone Master! (i've played since 94)

I've had mine for a few days jammed twice once with some volume. I'm playing it threw a 50 watt tube amp threw the FX return, and my 5 watt Epip VJ. Compared to any other amp modelers i've used the amp models on this thing feel like a real amp. All other FX are turned off even the cab sims. I've tinkered with the acoustic simulator and it's a lot more usable than the simulator that was on my boss ME-50. It just maybe useable!

  It's Awsome!

I purchased the Tonelab LE from Sweetwater even though it was backordered at the time. They did call and let me know about how long it would be until they got them and when they came in I recieved it. I came home one day and it was there a few weeks before expected, which was cool. I had compared it to other similar units by BOSS, Line6, Digitech, and Beringer. I heard somebody's on the Internet and I was sold. I wanted to get something close to a Zakk Wylde sound, along with many other sounds and still be able to have a great clean sound as well. This unit has done that for me. I have it running into a pair of Edirol amplified digital speakers through the SP/Dif output. There does seem to be a difference in gain when compared to just using headphones but a 2.0 gain adjustment seems to accomodate that. I am having some slight and barely noticeable crackling and poping noises with a couple of the heavily distorted presets that I created with some different effects but I am still working with that and might be able to solve the problem with some more adjusting. The presets are pretty good but the real power of this unit comes out through spending a great deal of time with making tons of adjustments and then creating your own presets. The manual is very good but I really have only read a few sections so far. There are some important things that I found that are necessary to know in the manual so even if you have experience with effects processors, I would suggest reading all of it. The fact that the wah pedal effect cannot be used with another one of the effects under the pedal section at the same time is not a big deal to me bacause I have created a great sounding wah with distortion preset with the amp and cabinet functions that has plenty of distortion and sustain to use with the wah. I run the thing into my laptop in stereo using two 1/4" cables to a (2)1/4 - 1/8" stereo adapter and it sounds exactly the same as it does using headphones plugged directly into the unit. Note - use LN1 or LN2 instead of AMP setting when doing this. This unit has a ton of settings and adjustments to fine tune your sound with plenty of effects that should satisfy for the money I think. I can go from totally clean to more than enough distortion and everywhere in between and nail the sound of a Marshall stack and many other types of amps but be prepaired to mess with the settings for many many hours if you are as picky as I am about reproducing the sounds of the greats.
