Rich Tone, Distinguished Look!

What a looker! The Classic Vibe Telecaster® Thinline is part of a storied electric guitar tradition — in fact, the first Tele® thinline was introduced by FENDER® back in the late 1960s. The Fender crew originally designed it as a semi-hollowbody guitar to cut back on the weight of the instrument — that way, it's primed for all-night-long playing. But the attractive single F-hole they added quickly distinguished it from the rest of the lineup, giving this instrument a special place in many a guitarist's heart. You'll definitely have vibe onstage when you pull your Classic Vibe Telecaster Thinline out of its case and start strumming your stuff.

Looks aside, when you pick up the Squier® Classic Vibe Telecaster®, plug it in, and give it your play, you won't believe the tone this beauty churns out. The custom single-coil pickups onboard make sure that you're ready to cover everything from country to rock to blues to jazz.

Offering up warmth, clarity, and plenty of punch, you'll enjoy a range of tones — and a head-turning look — with the Squier Classic Vibe Telecaster Thinline!

Awesom guitar for the money!

by Jim Kubitza from Lacey, WA USA
May 20, 2013
Music Background: Ex-pro musician, retired, still play a lot of blues.
For the money, this is an extremely high-quality guitar. The fit and finish is flawless, the neck is absolutely gorgeous, just wonderful to play. The vintage tuners work extremely well also. I can... read more [+]'t imagine any higher quality regardless of price!"

The pickups sounded great with great tone. My only nit was that on the neck pickup, the high E was "weak". The bridge pickup was just fine. I replaced the pickups with a set of Lindy Fralin Blues Specials, problem solved. I now have a Tele Slimline that is the equal of any Fender Shop Custom offering for FAR less money. I am not kidding, not exaggerating ... the quality of this guitar absolutely cannot be beat! If anything happens to this one, I will buy another in a heartbeat. close [-]

So Good It's Scary

Uh-oh.

We may have finally reached the era when an inexpensive CNC (computer guided) guitar build can equal anything anybody else can produce. Made in China, but you can't tell.

... read more [+]/>In fairness, the hardware is a bit cheap and the attention to detail isn't perfect. This is a budget axe. But, man what a guitar! The pickups sound terrific and the hollow body adds an extra dimension to Tele twang. It is well set up and is a joy to play. The guitar is light and the neck is thin, so if you like baseball bat guitars that fight you this isn't right for you.

With the right EQ it can do rock jazz blues country like it was made for any of them. Metal heads look elsewhere.

I would play this guitar in public without a second thought to the Squier name. I know other guitar players who will be envious after they try mine.

Bottom line: I own 6 other guitars, five of them high-end guitars made by well-known manufacturers. This guitar makes me uncomfortable because I may actually like it better than the others. It certainly is the easiest and most fun to play.

Outstanding. Really. close [-]

Beauty with a Bite

by Mike Epson from E.C., WI, USA

Looks ...
I'm really not sure that they could've done any better, in this department. Every example of this guitar I've seen has been constructed from beautiful materials, and finished in a strik... read more [+]ing manner. The mahogany bodies have all been well ribboned wood, fitted and finished to best accentuate the grain. I am an amateur woodworker, myself, and can just sit and stare at mine, just finding new highlights in the wood. The neck on my example is quarter sawn maple, with just a touch of figure. It is also finished beautifully. The 'pearloid' pick guard is the kind of touch that just puts the look a cut above. The only gig I could level are the knobs. Stamped to look like knurling does not equal knurled knobs. I'll pick up a better set, if and when they get to me. Still, two thumbs up on lookin' fine.

Fit and finish ...
Again, awesome. This is not the Squier of yesteryear. This thing is put together better than some mexican models. I own one of the latter, and found some of the wiring insulated with masking tape. What the?! ... Anyway, the only gig I could level on this one is that it it seems they used the countersink on the backside of the screw heads to force a matching countersink into the pick guard. Cost saving, but noticeable, if you're a perfectionist. I am one, and took about 15 minutes to fix this by (carefully) countersinking them, myself. Not something that is required, by any means, though.

Playability and setup ...
The setup and playability were above average, out of box. I set up my own guitars to what I like, anyway, and found this little gem both easy and enjoyable to work with. The neck needed only the slightest tweak on the truss rod to get it in there. The bridge was easy to set to height, and the saddles were very close to the 9.5 inch radius. The intonation needed some work, but again, was close. In their defense, I don't know of any sub five hundred dollar guitars that show up in perfect order, in this area. The pickup height was low on both the neck and bridge, but this is a subjective thing, up to a point, anyway. I brought them up to standard spec, and will tweak on them, as needed.

And last, and most important, tone ...
Again, subjective, but I really like the way this thing sounds. For single coils on a value-level guitar, I'm surprised at how quiet they are. For me there's always been something about a Tele. And of the Tele's, there's always been something about a Thinline. I can't put my figure on the exact part of the sound that gets me, but this guitar has it. A little vintage. A little heat. Good sustain. Surprisingly good midrange. And tying it all together, that twangy-jangly growl that stands up and says, "Yep, I'm a Tele. Deal with it."

To sum up, I'm surprised to be saying it, but barring the exposure of something bad, down the road, this little (inexpensive) guitar could be on it's way to being one of my favorites. Is it an American Standard? No, but this little sleeper is a good example of the fact that you don't need to spend a grand or more to have a real charmer of a guitar. close [-]

Amazing

by Kyle from Memphis, TN

Music Background: Worship Leader, Student, Blues Hobbyist
The first time I saw this guitar in the Guitar Center of Memphis, TN, I was caught off guard by how beautiful it was. However, when I saw "Squier" on the headstock, I wrote it off as junk, but out of ... read more [+]pure curiosity I picked it up and slid my hand down the neck. I was stunned. The neck felt perfect for me. I took it over to a Fender Blues Junior NOS amp and plugged it in. I played quick blues lick, strummed a chord and everyone within ear-shot jerked their head around in amazement at how amazing the guitar sounded. I was sold. I saved up the money and bought the very one I had played that day at Guitar Center and I have never looked back. This guitar is incredibly resonant, light and plays like butter. It is a steal and anyone look for a quality telecaster that stays in tune and gets the job done needs to grab a hold of one. All in all this is an amazing axe. close [-]
