The Fender Custom Shop 2012 Custom Deluxe Telecaster is fitted with a Custom Shop Twisted Tele pickup set, giving you traditional Tele twang, with higher, modern single-coil output. Versus the original Tele neck pickup, the Twisted Tele neck pup has been re-engineered to provide a brighter sound that approaches the spank 'n' sparkle you get from a Strat. This is a welcome enhancement for many Tele fans (including many of us Tele fanatics here at Sweetwater).

Leo Fender was a radio technician - not a luthier - so goes the "excuse" for why his first round of guitars sported maple necks without separate fingerboards. Aside from imparting "signature" looks to early Fenders, this neck construction gave '50s Teles and Strats a unique tonal signature. Maple, as we know, is a very dense tonewood, great for snappy attack and sustain. The characteristically sharp ictus of notes fretted on such necks are a significant part of the sonic vibe of vintage Fenders.
